It seems now that in 1911 they are all living in Paddington at Grittleton Road, Still wondering how many children Walter and Marie had though, seems as though Marie's mother Mary had her fair share, nine, five still living in 1911 and four had died, how tragic.

Will do Flick but it's not easy as the early records don't show who the mother is. Thanks for all your help.

Hi, Walter's occupation is given as a Mechanical Engineer. OMG Flick, so Marie married again, maybe when I get some spare pennies I should send for her marriage cert, that should show whether she is widowed or not. Sorry Flick for my ignorance but what does MMN is on the index after 1911 mean please?

Kind regards

On the GRO index after 1911 the mother's maiden surname is listed...........as is the spouse's surname for marriages.

No probs, thank you for all your help, the family is certainly interesting, it's amazing what you can find when you have subs. Will have to get someone to treat me for a birthday or christmas present then I won't have to bother other people for info and I can then help others myself. Have had a look on Free BMD but there are so many Day births plus time is getting away now and I have to be up at 6.15, work beckons again, don't know where the weekends go. I shall be off to bed shortly but if anyone has any further info I will check my messages when I get home tomorrow evening. You've all been so helpful, it will take a while to digest all the info. Wonder if anyone of these families are still alive that could tell a tale or two?

Kind regards

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 14 Mar 2011 08:18

Nothing certain about this but the only Walter E Day death registered in England or Wales 1911~2005 where the age at death of the deceased would be appropriate for someone born in 1881/2.

Name: Walter E Day
Death Registration Month/Year: 1967
Age at death (estimated): 86
Registration district: Bournemouth
Inferred County: Hampshire
Volume: 6b

N.B. The Walter Edward Thomas Day born in Islington 1880 is definitely not your Walter Edward. Walter Edward Thomas Day's WW1 service records reveal that he married an Alice Webber in Islington in 1903 and by 1915 they had 4 children (Walter b1904, Alice b1908, Jack b1910 & Louisa b1915). His trade was a "Loader".

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 14 Mar 2011 09:39

This looks likely to be the birth registration of the 8 year old Grandson (Walter Day Noel, born Woolwich) who is with Alfred and Mary Noel in the 1911 census. A copy of the birth certificate should resolve who his parents were:

Births Sep 1902 (>99%)
Day Walter Robert A Woolwich 1d 1309

Dea Report 14 Mar 2011 09:49

I think this could be Marie on 1911 - If you look at the image the age '8' could very well be a '5'
and I think the 'Frost' surname should not be there - It says Marie Day, then there
is a mark which looks like it is a ditto to thh Frost name above but I think this is
just a mark and not a ditto.

What does anyone else think?

Jonesey Report 14 Mar 2011 10:22

Dea,

I think that you have found both mother and daughter. Adele was born in Folkestone in 1885 exact details for Marie Noel the mother.

The mother's 3rd initial was "A":

Births Mar 1885 (>99%)
Noel Marie Isabel A Elham 2a 1071

I cannot spot a Walter Frost/Adele marriage prior to 1911 but there are a couple of Frost/Noel births that might be worth checking:

Births Dec 1922 (>99%)
Frost Laurence A Noel Edmonton 3a 791
Births Sep 1924 (>99%)
Frost Joyce R Noel Edmonton 3a 823

Although there was this marriage which probably accounts for the 2 Edmonton births:

Marriages Jun 1921 (>99%)
Frost Arthur W Noel Hackney 1b 829
Noel Rose Frost Hackney 1b 829

I wondered about that Jonesey - strange that she should have picked another 'Walter' !!

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 14 Mar 2011 11:05

Dea,

I cannot be sure about the Walter. Although the forename is the same nothing else really ties in with other things that have been found/assumed.

The most significant difference being Walter's occupation which on Marie Day's 1905 birth certificate is given as an electrician. People do of course change occupations.

A name change is unlikely as they would also have stopped using the young Marie's 2nd name of Day.

Pure speculation of course but my guess would be that it is a different Walter. Pure theory: Marie Isabel A Day, nee Noel either left her husband and took up with Walter Frost or Walter Day left Marie and she then took up with Walter Frost.

You pays your money, you takes your chance (lol)

Dea

Dea Report 14 Mar 2011 11:20

I think you are right Jonesey and if that is another marriage for her above in 1944, then she at least chose a 'Charles' for a change!

Kathryn Report 14 Mar 2011 18:06

Good evening all, just home from work, my you have all been busy. Thank you all so much. Am going to get some pennies together and get the marriage cert for Marie and Charles Schofield, not sure in those days whether the cert would show her as being a widow or what they would put if she had divorced Walter, although it seems Walter died in 1967 if Jonesey this is the same Walter, but am sure you are right as you all are the experts at this. It's going to take a while to digest this all and unfortunately I have to go off now to cook dinner but will be back online around 7pm. Once again, thank you everybody for your time, efforts and help it is truly appreciated. Once I have digested everything if there is anything that I'm not too sure of I will be in touch. Speak to you all soon.

Kind regards

Hi again, just had a thought as I went to cook dinner, I remember some talk about Edward Rabette being a stunt man in films, Robin Hood and the 39 Steps amongst others, Schofield I think was also an actor and one of the Marie's not sure which one was in the Folies Bergeres (not sure I've spelt that right) and on stage in other things also, and someone not sure who was a casting director at MGM, one of the women. Sorry, had to let you know that now before I forget later, senior moments!! Off to cook dinner now but will be back later.

Kind regards
