Mary not sure if this is the correct William as in the 1901 census his age if 62 giving a birth date of 1840 but will try anyway, as the years I know are not always accurate

Thanks

PS Have sent an email to both three people with the Berry name and area in the trees on this Site.

I have found William berry born 1837 Banbury Oxfordshire a boat man and his wife Jane in 1871 in Warwickshire .
They have 2 daughters Ann Berry born Bilston Staffs 1857 and Emily Berry 1861? Honiton Bedfordshire.

There are 2 people on here with William 1837 and Ann 1857.

Could you write to them Paula and ask if they now anything about William around the time he is with Eliza A Berry/Brown.

Mary

Mary Report 31 Jan 2011 15:15

1881 William Berry age 44 bargeman married to a Jane age 42 born leighton Buzzard .no children with them

1891 William and Jane.
With them nephew born @ 1881/2 Albert Blatchford.

1900 William with Eliza A
1911 William berry born 1837 banbury Oxfordshire pensioner married at
Albert Blatchfords nephew now married to Lucy nee Price.
38,Walton Rd Upton Park West Ham.
So William and Eliza A must have parted company!

Thanks Mary I have also looked on the 1891 for the family BUT can't see them. (Treated myself to 12 credits with Ancestry but not lasting long)

I can see your point and that is why I was wondering if there is a female Brown/Berry not showing up that could have been the mother of Arthur.

Thanks

Mary

Mary Report 31 Jan 2011 14:43

1911 Henry Brown 1887 Upton Park Essex
Emilie 1888 Forest gate married under 1year no children
Eliza Berry Portsmouth 1850 married 10 years no children to marriage MOTHER.So Henry is her son named BROWN.
Arthur Watson age 11 Boarder.

In 1901 William Berry 1839
Eliza A 1850
Thomas BERRY born 1885 Stepney
Henry BERRY born 1887 Upton Park.
Arthur Watson.

So Henry and Thomas are the sons of Eliza A in the name of Brown??
I can't find a marriage for Eliza A to William Berry and I can't find Henry,Thomas or Eliza in 1891.

I'm not trying to confuse the matter I just thought i would see if Eliza A is connected to the Watson family.
She says in 1911 she is 10 years married so William Berry in 1901 age @ 61 took on her 2 children plus Arthur!!

Eliza A is eluding me and its annoying so i will keep on looking.
Henry's wife down as Emilie,in 1911 I think this could be her
Emily Mary A Lawson born 1888 Forest gate married Henry E Brown Sept 1910 in West ham 4a 744.

Paula - I completely agree about the difficulty with "Watsons" - especially illegitimate ones, having somewhat more than a handful of them in my tree!! It is a fairly common surname but sometimes the saving grace is that the illegitimate ones have a surname as a middle name and it is often the surname of the un-named father - well here in Scotland anyway!

Thanks all so much.

Mary B have received a reply from the person with Edward in their tree as emailed. No match.

Kay??? Thanks.

Rootgatherer Thanks for posting census. Think once a gain dead end as Edwards son Arthur was born in c1900 so if Edward was in Scotland in 1901 then would not tie in with the Arthurs born in West Ham. Although unfortunately this is all guesswork... Although it has not eliminated the person I found in the Navy in 1911

I have sent for the Arthur Adams Watson - West Ham birth cert today although I am not sure as this is relevant.

Getting a bit confused regarding the Liverpool connections. Its a shame the surname is that common........(lol) not wishing to offend any other Watsons out there.

Many thanks will try and get some credits for the Tree on Ancestry regarding Sidney Thetford to see whats on that.

Once again I am still wondering if the Eliza Berry in the 1901 census posted had any children prior to 1885 - as mentioned she would have been 35 so COULD have been married before or had a daughter not at home. Trail of thought is that if she had an older daughter perhaps she fell pregnant with Arthur and her mother (Eliza) took the child in as a "nurse child".

Thanks again

Paula

One of the people with a tree on here with William Joshua Watson born between 1866/7/8 Liverpool Ship steward also has a Phyllis Margaret Watson born Aberdeen 1918 married in Southampton 1945.

This Edward also had Edward Albert 1894 born in Walton Liverpool who in 1911 was in the navy.

Maryb - No I have not contacterd yet. Although previously I have searched the trees and sent messages to anyone I thought relevant with no luck.

I have been going off in different directions as info comes in. I notice Thetford (Thelford) is about the same age as Arthur would have been. So this is interesting. Thanks you BOTH for that one.

I have checked the Navy Records on for a Thomas Berry and Edward Watson (Arthur's father) I have found two one an Thomas born Leytonstone age 27 Able Seaman. and an Edward Watson R.M Light Infa\ntry age 26 born Broughty Ferry, Forfar, Scotland. That is why I have asked for a look up on Scotlands People. The only reason for the search on the Scottish site is that on thinking back about a conversation with Arthurs younger son (sadly now gone) he said "they came from Scotland" very vague I know.

I am trying to work out if there is any connection between the Berrys and Watsonns.

Jonesey mentioned about the fostering. Looking again at the census for 1901 Eliza Berry - she ws 51 then. In the 1911 census she was 61 - 10 years for a "caring for a child" not related seems a long time to me. Was wondering if she had a daughter not showing up on the census as working back from the 1901 census she would have been 35 when she had her first child.

Probably once again off track

Thanks again for the input really appreaciate it.
