Yes, I did too Flip.

I checked it all through and I 'know' you are right about the death... (Of course, only the death cert will confirm that ).

I wish Lambert would just realise that you have almost certainly found him exactly the information he has been looking for for all this time.

I followed Thomas, by the 1901 census he was in Stockport with family, still there in 1911 with wife & 3 children. They had 3 children all still living according to the original.

Lambert - I 'did' say a few posts back that Joseph and Margaret were NOT 'yours'!

What do you think about the death which Flip has found for Joseph??

I have also followed it through and believe she is correct - Joseph's son Thomas got married and moved to Halifax!

Joseph's wife had died and so it looks like he went to live with Thomas ans his wife and died in Halifax in 1890.

It all adds up !

What do you think?

Lambert

Lambert Report 28 Jan 2011 15:04

Sorry Dea! But I 'm afraid the Joseph & Margaret listed are not our Houghton'S
Thanks again Lambert

Thanks Flip,

The 1891 posted by Ginny is not the same one as he is there with Margaret on 1881, I believe.

I think you may be on to something with that Halifax death - well done!

I can't look yet but I will do some exploring later.

Dea is doubtful about the grandchildren's name on the 1881 census - I think it may be Conner or Connor after looking at the original.

On the 1851 census they had a daughter Elizabeth (5) and there is a marriage in 1866 to a John Connor which could be her.

Can't find Joseph/Jane in 1861 have you managed to locate them?

Flip

Flip Report 27 Jan 2011 09:22

This may be his death, in the same area as son was living:

Deaths Dec 1890 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Houghton Joseph 65 Halifax 9a 294

I can't see another Joseph living in the Halifax area on the 1881 census, but the only way to check would be to get the certificate and hope the son or daughter-in-law registered the death.

Thomas's sons - Frederick born Bolton but Harry born Brighouse (reg Halifax, quarter 1 1890) which would put the family in the area prior to Joseph's death.

Flip

Flip Report 27 Jan 2011 09:03

Not sure about the 1891 census posted by Ginny, there was another Joseph, born Orrell on earlier census records.

This looks like the son Thomas in 1891 -

Thomas Houghton
Age 30
Estimated Year of Birth 1861
Relationship to Head of Household Head
Occupation Foreman Dyer
Address Foundry Street
District Halifax, Rastrick
Parish Rastrick
Administrative County Yorkshire (West Riding)
Birth Place Warrington
Birth County Lancashire

Married to Catherine (29, born Manchester) and they have 2 children Frederick (5) and Harry (1).

No luck on Joseph so far.

Thanks Dea!

All the above is known to us, its just what happened after 1881!

Cheers Lambert
