That's okay, We all have a life of our own. Thank you for your input. Maybe I will be able to return the favour one day? Yes I thought that as well. The problem is no one seems to know the maiden name of mother and as you say Joseph and Rosina may never have been married and that Rose took the name Gold (1911 census)? for appearances. Who ever can get passed this brickwall I will come and pin a medal on their chest. Have a lovely Christmas and new year Fan and if ever I do find that elusive birth certificate I will let you know. ps if I could find one birth ref surely Ii can find all four?

FannyByGaslight Report 20 Dec 2010 20:52

I wonder if they were reg under mothers maiden name is what I wonder as there is no birth showing for them under Gold etc...

LettyLoo Report 20 Dec 2010 19:56

Do you think all four siblings would have been registered under the same surname?

Mike *

Mike * Report 20 Dec 2010 19:47

His birth would have been registered but maybe not under the name Gold.
The authorities don't check birth dates, it depends what the informant tells them

LettyLoo

LettyLoo Report 20 Dec 2010 19:45

Thankyou! Does that mean that there should be a birth registation somewhere and that his birth would have been registered?

Would it have been the informant of the death who would give the date of birth at death or are they able to obtain this themselves? Would the registration district of death be able to help me with regards to a birth certificate?

FannyByGaslight Report 20 Dec 2010 19:39

The reason I wanted when and where he was born was to get his exact date of bith from his death ref..But you have now given it..
9th Oct is probably certain as most people get their date right, but year can be out,as was my own grandfathers. He always said he was born sept 25th 1901,but was born in 1902 really..
So now we know we are looking for a bith in the last quarter of a year..

I will be back later ,I want to do some searching again now..

Fan.

Death certs before 1969 only has an age the person was when they died, death certs after 1969 have the full birth date as given by the informant if they know it (although sometimes there are errors)

LettyLoo Report 20 Dec 2010 19:18

Joseph Gold passed away December 22nd 1938 aged 70, And a Rosina Harriett Gold passed away October 10th 1941, aged 63.

Their son Harry Gold (my grandfather) died on the 27th January1988 at 12 Friern Watch Avenue, N12. His death certificate states that he was born 9th Oct 1903, Hoxton, Hackney. The informants name was Derek Joseph Gold, his son, my mothers brother.

Does dieing after 1969 have any significants? Getting the Glossop and Gold mothers mixed up was funny.

I have been told by Derek that for sure his dad (Harry Gold 1903) had a Brother called John who went on to marry??? (who swore that his name was gould, goold or something similar) And that there was a Rose Gold who married a Tommy??? who could have been the illigimate child of Ethel or Rose??

With thanks

FannyByGaslight Report 20 Dec 2010 19:01

I have added those baptisms so they can be ruled out..

If your grandfather Harry died after 1969 then his exact date of birth should be on his death ref..

LettyLoo

LettyLoo Report 20 Dec 2010 18:53

I don't know why we are looking at William for Harry's father. I said that I found 1911 census with name Joseph Gold as working a few minutes from Redvers Street where Rose and family were found to be living.

Florence would have been Harry (my grandfather) Gold's mother in law.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 20 Dec 2010 18:45

I would, just to rule him it out if nothing else...You may get lucky...

Sorry..Got me Glossops and Gold mothers mixed up there...Do you have where and when your grandad died please? Was it after 1969?

Do you have any names for his siblings for sure?

LettyLoo

My grandfather Harry Gold (a fish fryer) (26) married Lilian Louisa Glossop (printers assistant) (18) on the 5th of May 1931 at Shoreditch register office.

Their address was given as 35 Ivy Street. Fathers names were stated as Joseph Gold (a carpenter) and Richard John Glossop (a travelling trunck coverer).

The marriage was conducted in the presence of Florence Maud Glossop (my grt grandmother) and J Gold (possibly my grt grandfather.
