okay missed page two. If you for definate that Emma Tuck's parents were John and Caroline Tuck, and that she was born in 1864 for which corresponds with the cert you have. Then it is most likely you have the correct certificate.

You would have to be very unlucky to have two Emma's born in shoreditch in 1864 with the same first parents names. Tuck I don't think is all that common.

Of course the only way to 100% prove this is to order the other cert and rule it out.

Could you post exactly what it says on her marriage cert.

I.e. what age she gives at marriage, does she mention a usual residence, who are the witnesses, and does it mention her father as John Adolphus Tuck or just John Tuck. I know there is a discrepancy with the occupation as to whether it is Sailor or Tailor.

I am sure i had John Adolphus Tuck's parents were William Tuck & Mary Ann Cambridge.

"However, the John TUCK who was the son of William TUCK, and Mary Ann CAMBRIDGE didn't marry a Caroline MCCARTHY. Instead , he married an Elizabeth JEFFREY in 1858 (probably at Hauxton, Cambridgeshire). The John TUCK who married Caroline MCCARTHY was, indeed, the son of a William and Maryann/Mary Ann TUCK"

She says her Johns parents were William Tuck & Mary Ann Cambridge.
Her jOhn marroed Elizabeth Jeffery.

BUT... I had John Adolphus's parents was William Tuck & Mary Ann Cambridge.

So..if that is wrong....who is the Mary Ann who married William Tuck?

This is one of the posts the lady sent me.

Hi Paul,

It was your line of descent tto John TUCK that I was querying - you have it as follows:

William TUCK, born circa 1791, Harston, Cambridgeshire; married Mary Ann CAMBRIDGE, 8 Feb 1820, Harston, Cambridgeshire
|
John TUCK, bap 02 Jan 1822, Saint James, Paddington, Middlesex; married Caroline MCCARTHY, 20 Jul 1856, Saint Thomas, Portsmouth

However, the John TUCK who was the son of William TUCK, and Mary Ann CAMBRIDGE didn't marry a Caroline MCCARTHY. Instead , he married an Elizabeth JEFFREY in 1858 (probably at Hauxton, Cambridgeshire). The John TUCK who married Caroline MCCARTHY was, indeed, the son of a William and Maryann/Mary Ann TUCK, but he was born at least ten years earlier, and in London, moreover. Plus his full name was given in the baptism records as John Adolphus TUCK, and his father, William TUCK, was a Piano Forte Maker - definitely not the William TUCK from Harston, who was a Thatcher!

Hope that helps a little!

Best wishes,

Sue"

Okay first question ;) lol

How do you know the birth cert you have, is not the correct one, if it has the correct first names for parents. This is the bit that has me confused.

Once I get that clear I can work from there.

Births Jun 1864
TUCK Emma Shoreditch 1c 184
TUCK Emma Shoreditch 1c 178

I am trying to work out which?

I have cert 1c 184.....says parents are JohnTuck & Caroline McCarthy
BUT?...are they the right parents?

Emmas father was a John Tuck and mother Caroline,,,but is this them?.

Dont want to have to spend the money buying the other cert to find out. I cant afford it.....

Even buying the other..i am still no closer knowing who her parents were.

Im trying to find out if i have purchased the right cert....lol.

Her fatehr was a John Tuck..mother Caroline.

So...there is a John Tuck married to a Caroline McCarthy in Portsea,, 1856.

Now...I have Emmas parents as John Adolphus Tuck & Caroline McCarthy

As her father (according to the census returns) was born in Paddington London 1821 / 22.

John A Tuck was born in Paddington c1822....The only John Tuck i could find being born around 1822 in Paddington.
I as sure i have seen the marriage of John A to Caroline Mc...but i cant recall where.

Oh, shame that, thought it might be London :-)

Seems you need to really have the original certificate (might be a clearer image), and the other Emma Tuck Birth Cert. to be sure of anything...

Chris :)

(just editing to say I thought you mean't a photocopy which had been given to you by a contact)

Bummer! ;(

I believe John A Tuck was a Sailor..I have just looked at an old copy of my tree before i removed John & Caroline links.
I have him being a Sailor.....BUt for the life of me I cant find any of the details I have on them.
I really need to contact the lady who told me i had it wrong..BUT i dont recall who she was.

John A was her relation and said i had got it wrong..as he wasnt my Emma's father.

But I recall her John A had married a Caroline McCarthy.

The same for a guy i also conversed with about his Tuck family....He also had John A married to a Caroline McCarthy...BUt I cant find the convere docs. AHAHHHHHHHH !! so frustrating.

Its been some much eaiser tracing my mothers family line than my fathers.....his has been a nightmare since the start!.
He never spoke to me about his parents....and as far as I recall ...he had no photos either.

According to my uncle Leslie Wilson , my grandfather, son of Emma Tuck & John Wilson. Leslie was a drunk..or at least a heavy drinker.

When John died in 1908..Emma had 2 of their children put into homes.
Leslie & sister Christina.
Both sorted by the navy..as John was a Shipwirght..as was his father and his father and his father before him...lol.
I cant find Emma in the 1901 census....I have seen it..John is away onboard HMS Active.

Sorry Paul for digressing.
There is an email service for enquiries which I have copied/pasted

"Before you order a certificate
If you would like to ask us a question, or want to know more about one of our services before you order a certificate you can email us directly at [email protected]"

perhaps they can help before spending any more money.
Good luck - Jle
