A nudge to share the news with the upsy downsy crew.

FBG -- certainly agree, all the help boards.

Thought I'd wait and see what it actually is before clamouring for it to be expanded. ;)

Why only on TTF and Surnames, why not all?

Have a bit of 'vision' Janey !! (Optomistic vision NOT 'smelly-vision!)

Forget the 'fish smell' and see what they come up with !!

That's it, Dea. Fish cat food was exactly what I had in mind. ;)

jax, I dunno, I'm having a hard time picturing a "drop down" appearing when one clicks a button. Maybe it means a pop-up??

Dea

Dea Report 3 Nov 2010 16:55

'Bated/baited" breath - Is that like my grandad's dog 'Kim' (WHAT a strange name for a dog ???) used to breath on us when he had eaten the cat's 'whiskers cat food ' - He did it with a BIG smile on his face, knowing it smelled awful !!!

A drop down!!

Is that something that will go along the top like search trees and messages that newbies dont see either?

I've replied that she can't be nearly as delighted as I and the rest of us are.

Glad to see that you, unlike many others one sees, haven't baited your breath, Cynthia. ;)

I'm nearly redundant............wheeeeeeeee.

Funnily enough Janey, I was going nudge this thread up and ask if you had heard anything. Didn't want to send a pm and spoil your day though! Good for you and your new BF.

Waiting with bated breath................Cx

At least it looks like a 'step forward'

There will still be loads of people who do not understand the instructions but, perhaps, it will make life easier.

At the very least, it looks as if the 'new' management is making an effort!!

Wonder if people will find the "drop down"easier to find than the big shiny purple reply button at the top of their post after they have posted.?

But still very good news and well done you Janey.
Always said you had a way with words, words and more words..:)

I await this revelation with open arms Janey !!

Looks good.

UPDATE - BREAKING NEWS! ;)

After the debacle on the "History" board yesterday -- someone posted about 15 threads all about related people, after obviously reading only their "surname board" which gave no clue to how the boards work (i.e. there were no posts there with replies, even) or ever seeing a "how to" post -- I wrote again to my new BFF at the new site management. Pleading for there to be instructions put in front of people's faces when they click to "Add Topic" -- start a new thread.

And the reply came today:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am delighted to tell you that a new drop down will appear with
instructions when adding a topic on the ‘Trying to find’ and
‘Surname’ board.

As you can imagine we have a long list of projects that we are
working on, so even with quick developments such as a drop down,
we still have to add it to the list of priorities, and this is why it has
not been possible for us to make this happen any faster.

This improvement should be live on the site by next Monday 8th
November – Possibly earlier if I can make it happen faster.

I hope this will solve some of the issues the volunteer helpers are
experiencing with new members.

Kind regards,

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you believe it??

A drop-down, hmm, not sure how that will work, but hopefully it will mean it can't be missed!

Totally off topic...but reading your last post Janey, I had this vision of you taking on a safe Tory seat over here in the next election...and it has tickled me mightily...I would pay good money to witness that ;)
