Hi Shirley,
I had thought of the age being different, but on some of the Census I have for my tree, the ages have been out a year or two, so thought that may have been the case here?

Thanks.

Joy

I thought so. This looks like William and his first wife. The marrige I posted earlier for him and Margaret does look like a second marriage

Dea, the Margaret Annie birth could well be a second child for James and Mary Ethel Lee

The Margaret Annie cert is a 'grand-daughter'

She is the child of son James + Mary Ethel Lee.

Thanks Dea for posting the 1911.

The son James was born in Newcastle so it looks like they were in that region for some time and I would have thought Mary would have been born there too

It's looking more like an adoption, maybe even James daughter

But a Scotland birth cant be ruled out

Edit; Dea, they had a 20 year old son in 1901

I wonder if Margaret was a second marriage for William?

1911:

VEVERS, William Head Married M 58 1853 Bricklayer Cumberland Carlisle
VEVERS, Marget Wife Married 15 years F 54 1857 Scotland Canon Tre Resident
VEVERS, Mary Daughter F 10 1901 School Northumberland N C

Address:
27 Sheraton St Spital Tongues Newcastle on Tyne County:
Northumberland

Two thoughts spring up here:

Thhe mother is Scotish - could she have gone up there to have the baby, or soon after, and registered her there?

Given the ages of the parents, the fact they have been married for 15 years and there is only one child, maybe she was 'adopted' ?

Wonder if this is the birth and these are the parents? Marys birth is registered in the first quarter of 1902 but she could have been born late 1901

Margaret would have been old to be having children in 1901, although not impossible I know

However they have a son age 20....it is possible he had a child out of marriage and this could be Mary?

can you give us some feedback please

HOUSEHOLD VEVERS MARY F 1901 10 Newcastle upon Tyne Northumberland

Is this Mary and her father? I cant find a Margaret about the right age?

I dont have full access to the 1911, could you post it please

The Margaret Annie that you mention is a different person as she shows up on the 1911 age 9...so dont waste your money on that certificate

KiwiJoy Report 29 May 2010 08:00

I have been looking for a while now trying to find Mary Vevers, parents William and Margaret,(nee Little). On the 1911 Census Mary is10yrs old, born in Newcastle upon Tyne. I have searched all the births from 1896 to 1906, to be on the safe side, but I cannot find a Mary Vevers anywhere - and I've tried variations of the Surname. I have just been on Free BMD and I have found a Margaret Annie Vevers born 1903 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Now given that her mothers name is Margaret do you think this could be my 'Mary". I would send for the cert. but it's a costly exercise, plus a 3 week wait for the cert to arrive. Would there be any other way for me to check if this is "My Mary"? I'd be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction to verify my info.

Regards

Joy
