Hi Cherilyn,

Thank you so much for all the info on Phoebe and William. I didn't know about the children so that was a lovely surprise. Thank you for taking the time searching, it is much appreciated.

Regards,
Carol. :-)

Sorry Cherilyn, Alfred is abit of a mystery as i cannot even find a death for him. He is on the electoral roll 1968 but not with Beatrice in 1970 or 1980. He doesn't show on the Ryerson Index. Not sure where else to look.

Surname: SCHMIDT
Given Names: William
Age: 73
Place: Ballarat
Year: 1882
Reference: 455
Cause: Natural Causes
Occupation: Miner

Inquest concurs with age on registration, not cemetery record.

Nothing comes up for Wm on the mining accidents index. Unfortunately my goldfields hospital admissions index doesn't work with my new PC! (since Phoebe died in hospital)

I can't find marriages or deaths for sons, sorry, but hope this gives you something to go on with!

Ballarat New Cemetery

SCHMIDT PHOEBE
Age: 50
Funeral: 26/7/1886
Area : COFEB Church Of England B
Section 7
Row :
Grave : 47

SCHMIDT WILLIAM
Age: 69
Funeral: 20/4/1882
Area : COFEB Church Of England B
Section : 7
Row :
Grave : 47

Though both ages are out compared to the register, I believe this is the same couple who had sons born in Ballarat as above.

No Cherilyn, on both the 1972 and 1980 electoral rolls she is on her own.

Hi Cherilyn,

Could you please look up a death/burial for Phoebe Caroline Schmidt in NSW. She was born Phoebe Caroline Lovell 1830 NSW, married William Schmidt in 1853 not sure where but presumably NSW, hopefully you could look that up for me too. I'm assuming she died late 1800's early 1900's. I would be so grateful for any information you could find on her/them.

Regards,
Carol.

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 13 Mar 2012 09:17

Well the 1990 death was in NSW so it would have meant a big move! I don't suppose either of them had Alfred there?

Gina

Gina Report 12 Mar 2012 22:51

Thanks Cherilyn. E-mailed both the above cemeteries and neither have Beatrice buried there. So i can only assume that between the 1980 electoral roll and the possible death in 1990, she must have moved again.

Hmm might be worth checking with

http://www.mtthompsoncrem.com.au/driver.asp

and

http://www.greatsoutherngardens.com.au/

They seem to be the closest cemeteries to Ormiston/Cleveland. They are not in any of the ones covered by Brisbane City Council.

I would also suggest that you follow up the NSW death notice, just in case.

Sorry I can't offer more.

Can't find a burial for the above Beatrice in NSW.

Whereabouts in Qld were they in 1968?

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 12 Mar 2012 01:39

Hi Gina

This is a *possible* for Beatrice from Ryerson Index - does fit age-wise but could be a coincidence as it is in NSW not Qld.

SALMON Beatrice Death notice
28OCT1990 Death [aged] 82
late of Fairfield West, formerly of Fairfield
Sydney Morning Herald 30OCT1990

A lookup of the notice can be requested at the site, should tell you if her husband was named Alfred. Go to www.ryersonindex.org/

Will keep looking...

Not sure if you can help. I am trying to find out if Alfred Arthur Salmon and his wife Beatrice Eva Salmon died in Australia. I know from the electoral roll they were in Queensland in 1968. I was hoping that maybe it was mentioned in a newspaper. I cannot find any UK death registrations for either. Alfred was born 1895/6 and Beatrice was born 1907.

Nope not him, he was born in Benalla (nr Winton) in 1890 to different parents. Bummer! Oh well, at least that rules him out!
