Hi Helen
Sorry but NLA only goes up to the mid-1950s... :-(
Maybe try contacting the paper, it seems it is still going - http://heidelberg-leader.whereilive.com.au/
Hopefully they have an archivist or someone who can help! Let me know how it goes. :-)

Hello Cherilyn,
I have found the information I was looking for on FLORZ - placename in Victoria -it should be FORE which is the abbreviation for FOREST CREEK, the old name for the Castlemaine area - and it is where Jessy Scot was born and, sadly, died aged 6 months. There is a cemetery site for Forest Creek.
Many thanks for your kind help.

Thank you, Cherilyn I also think it might be a mistranscription. I will send off for the birth certificate to see if that will help.
No, there isn't on this family unless you can suggest where to look for outgoing passengers for America after 1857.
Alice Scott is said to have left John and gone to America with a man named Edwards, they married on the boat and that the records were destroyed in the Great Fire in San Francisco. ( I know that there was more than one "great fire"). They had 2 children born in America.
John "married" again had a family and is buried in Maldon, Victoria with his second wife.
Thanks again,
Reece

No idea sorry, unless it is a badly mistranscribed FITZ for Fitzroy?
Was that your only question? 'm not sure if there was more you were seeking...

Hello Cherilyn,
I am still hoping to find some more on the John Scott & Alice Morris family - have you seen the place name FLORZ anywhere in your research in Victoria, please, as the first child Jessy is shown as born 1853 Florz, Victoria.
John and Alice appear to have gone to the goldfields in Victoria after 1852 and I have found a second marriage for John Scott through a descendant and further family.
I am very grateful for your kind help.

Hello Cherilyn,
Many thanks for looking - much appreciated.
Yes, I wondered if this might have happened so now to search immigration to America for Alice Anne and her daughter.
Kind regards,
Reece

Hi Reece
Sorry I can't see her either.
Are you sure she didn't go to America with her mother?

Hello Cherilyn,
You recently helped me with a Morris query and I hope you might also be ab le to do so again.
Annie Elizabeth Scott b. 1855 Caslemaine, Victoria to John Scott and Alice Anne Morris.
I have tried searching the Victorian site looking for her death or marriage but without success. Her parents separated, her mother going to America and her father remarrying in 1870 living at Maldon, Victoria. Two other babies died Jessy b/d 1853/1854 and Walter Thomas b./d 1856/57 Victoria.
I would appreciate it if you could please have a look for anything on Annie Elizabeth Scott for me.
With grateful thanks.

Hi Janice
Robert married Hazel Bell Rose DARBY in 1934 in Plantagenet district (Southern coast, e.g. Albany, Mt Barker), reg no 47.
She died 6/2/1978 aged 75. Robert died 7/8/1977 aged 76. They are interred together at Karrakatta Cemetery (see mcb.wa.gov.au). You can request the funeral application quite cheaply thru that site as well. Death certs are quite expensive in WA!
This is Hazel's father's death notice:

Thank you Cherilyn :-) I really appreciate all this. I just tried to search for George Mitchell's birth certificate in Scotland but it brought up nothing and I cannot find George and Olives marriage certificate and mostly because I cannot get the births and marriage registry site to work for me ~ the only one that is working is the NSW one.
When I read Georges middle name, I remembered it :-) Thank you :-)

Which leads me to :
Family Name: BUCHANAN Given Name: Geo Mitchell Spouse Family Name: BROWN Spouse Given Name: Olive Registration Year: 1927 Registration Number: 25 Event: M
and his WWII enlistment, confirming the Scottish origin:
BUCHANAN GEORGE MITCHELL : Service Number - 19254 : Date of birth - 27 Feb 1903 : Place of birth - GLASGOW SCOTLAND : Place of enlistment - MELBOURNE : Next of Kin - BUCHANAN OLIVE
Sorry that is about all I can find. George & Olive's marriage certificate would be probably the most useful, as next step.

I am really stuck ~ The only Information I have is ~ George Buchanan and his wife's name was Olive lived in Seymour, Victoria Australia, they had one son ~ Bruce Oliver, died in the last year and two daughters, Shirley and Janet. George owned a business called Buchanan Motors ? in Seymour. George told me that his fathers name was George Horne [Horn} or Horne George [Not sure if the spelling is just horn or with a e?? and they came from Scotland. WOW I wish I had more to go on but that is all I have. George died in the late 1990's, in the state of Victoria. Trying to trace back. Thanks in advance :-)
