Hi Linda You could try checking the newspapers at NLA Trove for a marriage notice. Otherwise I am really not sure; you can't apply for a Qld marriage cert of another party if it was less than 75 yrs ago... :-( Sorry Cherilyn

Hi Cherilyn, How are you? I know this is outside the dates you cover (marriage between a Graham and Austin in Qld, c 1952/3), so could you advise me as to where to look to confirm the dates, and how to then order the cert? Regards Linda

I thought eldest son John must have died but this looks like his wife's death notice! in Western Australia!
The West Australian, Thursday 16 November 1950 CARTMEL: On November 14, 1950, passed peacefully away, Annie Maria, widow of the late John George Edmund Cartmel, devoted mother of George and Gladys (Mrs. S. A. Beavis). Privately interred in the Anglican portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery. Arthur J. Purslowe and Co.
John died 23/11/1936 aged 67. He lived in North Perth. Annie was 79 when she died; her maiden name was GILLMAN. See www2.mcb.wa.gov.au
They had a son named George Edmund; he married Evelyn Mary CLARKE in 1926 and died in 1958 aged 60. Daughter Gladys Myrtle married Stanley Arthur BEAVIS in 1929; they divorced in the 1950s. I have found living Beavis rellies if you are interested in following up this branch.

Marriage of Albert Noel CARTMEL, son of Albert & Nellie:
The Argus, Monday 29 August 1949 Cartmel-Gordon The groom's brother, Mr Colin Cartmell, was best man at the wedding in Church of Christ, Gardiner, on Saturday, of Joan, only child of the late Mr. G. K. Gordon, and of Mrs H. Gordon, of Glen Iris, and Albert Noel, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. E Cartmel, of Hawthorn. The bride's white frock was cut on classical lines, and she wore a veil of point l'Anglaise lace on Brussels net over tulle, which formed a train. Her two matrons of honour, Mrs J. Pope and Mrs P. Duncan, wore blue crepe frocks, and her bridesmaid, Miss Heather Butler, wore white georgette.
I have found contact details for a son of Albert's, and the wife of Colin (still living); if you are interested, send me a PM and I will forward to you.

Out of interest, a letter to the Editor that Joseph had published:
The Argus, Thursday 22 March 1945 Sir: The statements of Lieut. Colonel English regarding conditions in the Mallee and his summing up of the politicians who seem to think it is their duty to hide truth from the city people make interesting reading. It is refreshing to find a cultured and much - travelled Britisher telling his readers so many home truths. As one who has travelled extensively in north-western Victoria, I agree with our English critic that a coat of paint is better than whitewash to brighten up our country towns. I also think politicians who represent country areas should pull their heads out of the sand and open their eyes to what is really going on, instead of following the lead of the chief ostrich. -J L. CARTMEL (Melbourne).

I was wondering if you could be of some assistance?
I am looking for a William John Jennings born June 1, 1882 ( STAFFORD, Staffordshire, England) parents Theophilus Jennings and Sarah Ann (nee Moore).
My mother remembers her parents getting letters from New South Wales from William. She remembers that her had at least 2 daughters. (but she could not remember any names) She said that they were about her age. (mom was born in 1919 and her sister in 1920).
In the American civil war pension application of Theophilus Jennings there are several letters dated between the years of 1909 and 1919. In these letters Theophilus refers to having a son in Tasmania and later in New South Wales.
There are no other references to any other of his family members going to Australia. I would suspect that William probably went to Australia between 1900 and 1909 via Tasmania and then New South Wales.
I realize that this is not much to go on. I any help or hints would be much appreciated.
