Going on the 1891 census this marriage looks good...

Marriages Mar 1882
Graham Henry Salford 8d 115
WILLIAMS Margaret Salford 8d 115

You do need to confirm to us where you got the mother's name from...

Do you have Alice's birth cert? Or have you done everything off one census data?

This is the 1891 census maybe?

Hey peeps

Have you considered the wife maybe have been a widow before marrying this guy?

Altho she may have been a Bradley by birth she may not have been one upon marriage??

Have you found ALL marriages mentioning an Annie/Anne/Ann/Annabel/Hannah or any combination of marrying a Henry Graham?

No don’t be silly, you’re not dumb at all, you may have been very clever and found a mistake!

When you search for a marriage, you enter both the names of the couple. This will then bring up the results for the two named getting married. It does the cross ref auto

I did just that on Ancestry and Freebmd and nothing came up. You entered them separately and have got the result that poses a question

Give the GRO a call, it might be whoever entered the marriage on the records, got it mixed up....or not!

hi ginny

thanks for the info.

How do you cross reference marriage details for them?

sorry for sounding dumb - but i'm a novice! :)

Gee

Gee Report 13 Jan 2010 20:02

I've looked at both records on the index and they are the same as the ones transcribed

So, I would say there are two possibilities

1) It's not the marriage you are looking for

2) It is a mistake by the GRO

I would give them a ring and explain the situation before you go ordering the certificate(s)

hi ginny

How do you cross reference the marriage details?

I just presumed the details i.e. 8d 15 and 8d 115 were hopefully the same. i was thinking their was a error in the number 15 or 115?

When marriages are registered - can they be issued in the wrong quarter? just a thought? :(

Hulligan Elizabeth Salford 8d 115
Pearl Richard Salford 8d 115
WILLIAMS Margaret Salford 8d 115

I see what you have done. The people above married someone who is named in the quarter. So there are two couples that marry in each quarter.

Your couple would need to come in the same quarter. Dont order any certificates, it's not them

hi Ginny

Where's the cheapest place to order bmd certificates?

thanks:)

Gee

Gee Report 13 Jan 2010 16:35

Susan

Promiscuity back then was no different than it is today.....just a little more discreet!

A lot of marriages were followed by a very quick birth, if you get what I mean

The death I posted isn’t proof that it’s your Henry. The only way to find out is to buy the certificate and see if the informant was Annie?

40 was not all that young to die back in the 19th century.

Sad but true

Celticqueen Report 13 Jan 2010 16:26

Re Henry Graham/Grahams - he died young at 40? Wonder what this relates to?

I thought in those days you had to be married before having children.

I too have been looking for months for a marriage certificate for them but cant find anything at all.

Trying to figure out where to go from here? Any advice?

Gee

Gee Report 13 Jan 2010 16:06

It's not unusual for names to be spelt differently.

I'm beginning to think that that they didn’t marry. I cant find anything?

hi Ginny

Yes i have tried free bmd - but found nothing.

Not thought that surname could have been listed as grahams rather than graham. I still would like to find their marriage certificate though.

Hi

Thank you for your quick information. Is it usual for the surname to be different. i.e. Graham to Grahams?

Do you think this is the correct information on them?

Gee
