Hi Derek..

I was wondering if you had the parish records for Allestree, Derby please.

From a previous posting I am still researching my OH's Badder/Baddar family..so many bits and pieces now and trying to link them altogether so any help would be much appreciated.

2x gt grandfather Joseph Baddar b c1800 was baptised 04/01/1801....along with other siblings at Bradley nr Ashbourne...parents Thomas Baddar and Hannah mn unknown. However I cannot find find any baptism for Thomas at Bradley or a marriage to Hannah. On the census Joseph was born Ashbourne.

Whilst driving through Derbyshire a couple of months ago to visit my cousin in Buxton we did a detour to the village of Bradley and visited All Saints Church where we found 2 graves in pristine condition. One was for a Joseph Baddar who died 10/01/1815 aged 64 and the other for his wife Sarah who died 20/01/1812 aged 62.

I have just found on Genuki a burial index for Bradley which includes a listing for Joseph stating he was living in Allestree....hence my posting.

Also listed was a Hannah Badder died 05/06/1816 living in Ashbourne aged 39...which may well be the 3x gt grandmother of OH?...arghh!

And there was me thinking linking my OH's Bramwell family in Tideswell was bad enough :-D

Many thanks..

Linda

hello linda..nice to hear from you again.....here's what i have got....

JOSEPH BEDDAR married SARAH HOUGH at Bradley 21.06.1776..he appeasr to have been born in Notts 1750 and died at Bradley 06.01.1815..buried 10.01.1815..Sarah his wife born Bardley 1750 was buried at bradley 20.01.1812............so these are the graves you found.......

They had the following children:_

Sarah 1779-1816
Joseph 17.08.1780
William 27.11.1782...died Mar 1845
Ann 08.12.1784..baptised 12.12.1784
Charles 10.03.1787 baptised 11.03.1787
Edward 21.12.1788
Betty 30.01.1791

HANNAH BADDER buried Bradley 05.06.1816 aged 39..(born 1773) seems to fit very nicely with your suspicions......THOMAS and HANNAH BADDER had the following children..

Elizabeth 28.08.1796
William 12.01.1799
JOSEPH 04.01.1801...all at Bradley

I have yet to find the marriage......I don't have the Allestree records..but I suggest they are irrelevant as simply being the place that Joseph senior was living when he died...........The two families appear unrelated unless Joseph husband of Sarah...and Thomas husband of Hannah..were brothers..which is more than possible..but as yet unproven..........
the names Beddar and Baddar appear to be interchangeable.
I forget how far we got with the Bramwells..but I do have the Tideswell records..and I am probably better endowed with other resources than when we last spoke...........IF you think i can help further.....!!

Hi Derek..

Many thanks for all the invaluable information and good advice yet again :-D

I was thinking and hoping that Joseph and Sarah may have been the parents of Thomas but there you go. I feel we missed a golden opportunity of asking if the parish records were still held within the church as the doors were open however there was no one around to ask at the time of our visit. Still we did take some good photos :-)

It is interesting to note that Joseph was born in Nottingham....I did a kind of one name search through the censuses (sp) a while back and there was a large contingent of Badders in Notts!

As for OH's Tideswell Bramwell family I am still no further on sadly however I will take you up on your kind offer if that's ok....I will be back ;-)

My thanks again..

Linda

Hi Derek
Back from holiday in Sicily..Great! Marriage cert for WILLIAM GEORGE MARSDEN to Esther Wright 26/2/1866 gives him as a butcher and father JOHN MARSDEN farmer.
Living Kirkdale married Walton on the Hill Lancaster.
This is the (George) that Neil has on the MARSDEN Tree He later puts himself as just George Marsden in Salford.
sonya
ps. I found the marriage of Sophia Marsden daughter of George and Emma Storey...she did give her father as George Henry Marsden as I thought. Dont know where she found that though. S

Hi Derek...Seems so..I Hope so. Is there any way to prove this? I have told Neil Marsden about our doubts and asked him to check his sources. Can you go any further? Sonya

Sonya Report 27 Sep 2012 17:54

Hi Derek..just noticed that Emma Storey`s father George was in Westminster Hospital at the time of her daughter Sophia`s birth.. 1869-71.maybe this had some bearing on the missed marriage! sonya

Evening Derek, can you please take a look and see if you can find a marriage for these 2.

Albert Atherley born 1859 Derby.
and
Sarah Stone ?????? born 1859 Alstree.

Thank you :-D

Derek

Derek Report 29 Sep 2012 22:48

Hmmmmm..I dunnow.......seems odd..........
If you look at the 1881 Census you will find ALBERT ATHERLEY living in Derby..described as "Wife's Brother"..unmarried "Stove and Grate moulder"

The family is that of Samuel Orme married to Agnes.

Taking the entry as true i looked for samuel's marriage......JAS1868 to AGNES ATHERLEY........excellent..

Now if you look at the 1891 census you find Albert Atherley and his wife Sarah Atherley..both of Derby..but living in Nottingham..with their 12 year old daughter NELLIE...born in Radford..........Albert Atherley is..a "Stove and Grate Moulder".... :-| :-| :-|

there is an 1881 entry for Sarah J Stone born Allestree 1859 living as servant..unmarried.............the two may or may not be linked..........You might have some idea of what is going on..cos i ain't!!

As far as I know Agnes and Albert are brother and sister, children of Henry and Sarah Mansfield. The only marriage I can find for an Albert to a Sarah is Mar 1900 in Derby but Sarah has not got Stone as surname in fact I have a choice of 2 ! I wonder if the naughty peeps were at it and then he did a runner leaving her with Nellie. Posibility is now I think of it that she married ,was Widowed ? then met up with Albert again and wed under her married name. :-S :-S. A bit more digging about for me here methinks.

Why oh why can't my lot have lead a simples life :-P :-P :-D

Edit... Just found them on 1911 40,Livingstone Street,Nottingham stating that they were married in 1885. Can't find that marriage anywhere. Also states 3 dead children any ideas ?

Hi Derek

I am trying to find info on an Josiah Windle ( c1786), married in Beeley to a Sarah Badgeley. Up against a brick wall and only hope is that a Parish record has details of who attended the wedding etc and if there are details of who his father may be. Would be grateful if you could look up on any records you may have.

Thanks

Pat

Derek Report 3 Oct 2012 18:25

Hello Pat..I think you're struggling to be honest. The only reference I can find to the Birth of JOSIAH WINDLE in any records to which I have access is born 1786 Derbyshire........He appears on the 1841 census..but that is never going to help..because 1841 Census records never give place of Birth..only "In County" or "Out of County"..ages are never accurate..so Derbyshire 1786 remains.
I have access, of course to Family Search.org...nothing.....
I have about 100 separate Derbyshire Parish Records. allof which start well before 1786......and short of ploughing through every one of them, I don't think we're going to find him.
He married SARAH BADGLEY 13.04.1807 at Beeley....but no records that far back give father's name.....or witnesses
However i do have a history for Sarah Badgley, who was born at beeley baptised 30.05.1780 daughter of THOMAS BADGLEY and DOROTHY nee SPARKS..who married at Beeley 30.05.1780

THOMAS BADGLEY was baptised at Beeley16.09.1750..one of several children of FRANCIS BADGLEY and Elizabeth.........Francis himself baptised 02.04.1732 son of Francis...........

SARAH BADGLEY appears to have been an only child.

The children of JOSIAH WINDLE and SARAH were as follows:-

Thomas 20.03.1808
Mary 15.04.1810
Jon 02.05.1813
Elizabeth 09.07.1815
Josiah 22.04.1818..buried 19.04.1892

There appears to be a Hannah somewhere in the middle but not in the PR's..she is on the 1841..but the relationships in that household in 1841 are not clear because there are two young children..so Hannah may be the wife of one of the three sons.......

I'll see what else i can find
