Marion//a little tip..you don't have to scroll down to page 88 or whatever..when you log on to my Thread.simply click onto "postdate"..which brings the lates additions straight to the top.
Am working on your Hallam Girls.......as you know EMILY married ALFRED ALLEN NIX 2nd Qr.1905 in Derby...........the full list of children of George and rachel appear to be: Percy George..Annie M..Lillian..Agnes..Evelyn...Walklyn...
George and Rachel both appear to have been dead by 1911
Two of the girls may have married in the BASFORD registration District..but without other clues..no way of pinning them down
Do not be confused by Basford..its in Nottingham and i live in Basford.....but it used to be the Registration district for part of Derbyshire......much as burton on trent Staffs was for parts of derbyshire....
Walklyn Hallam definitely married Ethel V Taylor in derby (Registration District) rd Qr 1923.....
Do you want the earlier stuff on George hallam..his parentage and siblings..and the same for Rachel Winfield.......
By the way.another quick way of getting back to me is click on "My Threads"..because you've answered me, your reply becomes one of you threads..as does any contribution you make to ant Thread on GR. So you don't need to hunt..once you've logged on to "Community"..the "My Threads" option is on the left hand side of the page.
More soon
Derek.

Thank you Derek you have solved the mystery of the name Walklyn - I could not make out what it was on the census form. I would love any other info you have on George - i have downloaded the census return for Rachel Winfield now from Radbourne which details her mother and father Ann and William Winfield - Thanks very much for your tips..too - the hallam girls are of partiular interest to me and my sister. We also wish to go back on Alfred Allen Nix as well - we have heard stories of links to welsh pirates? ?Wales to Derby seems very far fetched to me!
Regards and thanks again for your time.

Thank you for the confirmation on Daniel Malbon, the tree on Ancestry i have looked at is a public tree, but as you say very well documented and goes back to 980 AD, un fortunatly the owner hasn`t been on for over 12 months, so will use it as a guide and try to find some of the documentation listed.

Hi Derek,
Do you have Whitwell / Killermarsh records?
I am trying to establish the correct maiden name of Jane Presley. She was married to a Joseph Skinner Presley. Born c1796-98 in Killermarsh and married 1816-1819. They lived in Whitwell, and between 1841 and 1861 Jane's mother was part of the household, her name being Margaret Davis born c1778 in Wales. Trees on ancestry seem to be divided on Jane's maiden name Jane Turton or Jane Davis, at the moment I have the latter. Have you any records that point to one or the ohter. I have found a marriage between a Margaret Turton and a Andrew Davis in Derbyshire in 1801 but it is a submitted entry, so I am not sure how accurate ii is, any thoughts Regards Mark

Mark..I have Joseph Skinner Presley marrying JANE DAVIS 1818 Whitwell..but I can't prove it..not having the Killamarsh or Whitwell records...but I am fairly confident in view of what you already have. EDIT..if its indications you're looking for.....Jane Davis born Killamarsh 1798..mother Harriet.......submitted entry!! Derek.

Hi Derek, Many Thanks for that. I was pretty sure it was Emily from Williams middle name, but someone sowed a few doubt seeds. Best to make certain. I assume it was 1903 was it? Had a look at the Red door, for some reason it kept coming up with No. 12 with a brown door, I must have wobbled the orange man. First time I've tried that. After years of Bband speed of half a meg we've just got super fast and from the 21st we go to 30 megs Wow. John George snr's father John was an undermanager at Bretby Coll. Speak soon Warwick

Hello Derek
A few weeks ago you sent me a pm regarding my query about the death of Mary Holmes, she seemed to disappear after she married Abel Holmes in 1847, you said you were working on some ideas about this and I wondered if you had found anything. Also I asked you if you could have a look for the marriage of George Tattersall to Mary Marsden on the 24/12/1832 at St. Thomas's Church in Old Brampton, parents names would be a great help.
Many thanks
Kath

Hello Kath..yes..sorry not to have been in touch..I keep coming back to it..but with little success.....
However........the entry for George Tattersall's marriae to Mary Marsden 25.12.1832..give no details except that he is "of St. Nicholas Nottingham"
I've been through my marriages for St Nicholas and can find nothing to fit possible parents of George. Was he born in Notts???
Chesterfield District BMD,s give TWO Mary Holmes' death registrations in Chesterfield for 1850.....
However..and this is interesting..Old Brampton PR's give the following:-
MARY ANN MARSDEN 30.03.1806 daughter of George and Mary..and in the Burials for Old Brampton St peter and St Paul (New Brampton St Thomas Church was not opened until 1832....and incidentally the Church that married George and Mary..served parts of the original old brampton and Walton)..as I said the Burials for Old Brampton give the following:-
MARY ANN HOLMES of Walton..buried at St peter and St.Paul 19.03.1850 aged 44..it is inconceivable that these two are not the same person!!
George married Mary Marsden.......but she only has to christened and buried under her full name.......
A marriage certificate for Abel and Mary..would give her parents name...George and mary marsden???
and if George WAS born in |notts..then i think HIS parents were also \george and Mary!
what do you think???
Derek.

Hi Derek Thanks for getting back to me with more info, this is a really confusing problem. There appears to be two Geoge Tattersalls, cousins I think, one born abt 1780 son of Isaac and the one I think is mine b abt 1793 son of Robert both born in Derbyshire in the Chesterfield area, could be Dronfield, Brampton or Alfreton?? Always thought my George was the one who married Mary Hutchinson, distant cousin told me this, she also said that Mary was bap. 16/8/1789 daughter of James but I think the Mary Tattersil on the 41 census for Nottingham with her son Robert is mine even though she gives her age as 45 and born in County?? This is why I wanted to check the marriage of George to Mary Marsden. I've got the marriage cert for Mary Tattersall to Abel Holmes and it does give her Farher's name as James Hutchinson so we know that a Mary Hutchinson did marry a Tattersall but which one?? I did think that if Mary Hutchinson died young perhaps my George married again to Mary Marsden and it's her that's on the 41 census??? It's really frustrating that I can't find a record of any George Tattersall dying in either Derbyshire of Notts. that fit the above and as we're said before where was Mary after she married Abel Holmes? Any help you can give me to solve this would be really appreciated.
Regards Kath

Hi Kath.....this is certainly not easy..but perhaps we are not relying enough on our resources....
There are only two Georg'e that qualify in terms of timesacle....which makes it easasy if you accept the Source....
The George that married MARY HUCHINSON dronfield 1821 was actually GEORGE TATTERSIL...and there is only one of them....GEORGE TATTERSIL 12.0.1780 Chesterfiel son of isaac.......both entries quite definite on the spelling.
GEORGE TATTERSALL Cesterfield 25.12.1793 married MARY MARSDEN 24.12.1832. Old brampton..he was the son of Robert and Elizabeth.
My advice is to match up the two spellings for the two marriages..even the speliing difference is lost later on........ EDIT:..George Tattersall died JFM 1845 Radford notts.???? seems possible at least since mary married Abel 1847.... Derek
