Hi Sally........well..I've had a good look at your tree..and can see nothing wrong with the children of William Purdy and Martha nee Fullwood BUT... there are one or rwo areas which may have led to confusion n your part.
WILLIAM PURDY was NOT born NorthWingfield..or South Wingfield in 1821....he was indeed baptised 22.04.1821 at Heanor.

The Wingfield Purdy is a red herring..he was still living in the area (at Wessington) in 1871...when your William was a father of nine children!!

Now then.!! about this connection with Florence Nightingale that you seem to hanker after........BEWARE!!.......
As you say..Florence's Father was William Shore.........I know the full story, and more!!..having researched it fully back to "Mad" \Peter Nightingale..whose name William took on the pretext of a very iffy "great nephew" link.........
Florence's Birth name was NOT Shore..it was Nightingale..and as you know she was born along with her sister in Florence Italy..after Shore had assumed his adopted name of Nightingale....

Florence never married and never had children..neither did her sister..there are no Nightingale descendents...Your Nancy Nightingale would not be called Nightingale if she were a cousin of Florence..if she were by any chance a distant cousin...she can only have been called SHORE..or maybe..just maybe VERNEY.....

Martha Fullwood was baptisef at \ilkeston 22.02.1826..daughter of Thomas Fullwood and Nancy........1871 Census has the family in Ilkeston..and Nancy Fullwood age 74 mother in Law is living with them......she appears to come from |leicestershire............I have looked in vain for a marriage for her in Leics/Derbys/Notts.......

However..THOMAS FULLWOOD married ANN PARROT GOODALL at Ilkeston 12.10.1823..........she could esily have originated in leicestershire..and could just as easily be called Nancy....a very common pet name for Ann or hannah........

All mentions of the Purdy Family and the fullwods..centre around Heage heanor ilkeston \langley mill and selston.......and all seem to hang together............I offer you some suggestions to think about...

Derek.

Hi Gooner......just a quickie..so as you know i'm on the case...Winshill is one of those weird places in or near to Burton on Trent..that until 1894 was in Derbyshire......its all very confusing............However..you're right there were a number of sisters ..and Joseph married MARY ANN CLARKE in 1859 at Burton on trent..Harriet was baptised 07.12.1862.......

There's plenty more, but i ma right now...as they say..cream crackered...more tomorrow.

Hi, I'm new to this Genereunited forum section and having noticed your reference to loads of Derbyshire information I wondered if the info includes the Parish of Linton in South Derbyshire?
I'm a novice at family tree research, having began with an old bible given to me by my grandad. Now I'm looking into my wife's parents history: I'm looking for any information about a farming family in Linton with the name of BURTON. My father in-law's gt.grandad owned farmland in Linton on the 1800's and early 1900's. (Unfortunately, an uncle of his arranged something with the wills which caused the land all to drift away from this side of the Burton direct family). William Orp Burton was my wife's gt.gt. grandad, Samuel Burton was her Gt Grandad and was left to look after the Linton farm when his father William (Orp) moved to Rosliston. Samuel eventually rented the farm out. I'd love to find the ancestors and children etc (marriages, births, deaths) of William and Samuel.

Many thanks

Steve

Hello Stephen..welcome to the Boards...and you did right to contact me. The information you give me is somewhat sparse..but I should be able to find something of use to you.......this immediate reply is just a matter of courtesy to you..to let you know that I will do my best to trace the family....you give very few dates......but leave it with me.....Happy new year to you.
EDIT.....20.59 New year's eve.........ok Stephen..the good news is I've cracked it!!....the bad news is that I am logging off quite soon to pursue my New Year's Eve revels!!!..just a taste for you......WILLIAM ORPE BURTON was baptised 02.10.1843 at Lullington South Derbyshire (all part of the Linton/Church Gresley/repton area)..he was the son of William henry Burton and his wife Sarah nee \Litton. from Church Gresley........William Orpe Burton married Frances Maria (Marie?) Goodall 31.12.1867 at Lullington..and they had several chidren at \Linton......Details later...one of whom was a sarah A..who married someone called Burrows....and another was SAMUEL JOHN BURTON b 1872.........I have now got all the details of other children and marriages etc........but just to tease you..you'll have to wait!!

As you suggested WILLIAM ORPE BURTON moved away from \linton and in 1901 is to be found at Burton Road ROSLISTON where he is listed as still being a Farmer...He died 06.08.1904....

Clearly it would be an idea if you were to let me know how much of this you already know....in order to save wasting your time and mine in logging all the details.......I don't mind at all if you know nothing....and \i love doing the work..more tomorrow.
Derek.

Happy New Year Derek <3

Derek

Derek Report 31 Dec 2011 23:04

Hi LA.....sorry to keep you waiting......Happy new year to you too.......I gave you wronng information..which threw me.....Joseph Allsopp married mary Ann Clarke in 1849..not 1859..........successive Census entires give a confusing picture of the ages of Joseph and \mary Ann....In 1871 he is 60 and she is 45....1861 he is 65 and she is 38...1881 he is 79 and she is 56.........oh Joy!!.....common factor .he is about 20 years older than she is....and |i think he was married before!!.another randy old goat i suspect....anyway......they had a number of children......

MaryAnn 1850........dates apprx......
Fanny 185
Emma 1855
Ellen 1857
Maria 1858
Sarah Ann 1860
Maria..replacement?? 1861
HARRIET 07.12.1862
Sarah A (replacement??) 1867

Francis Atherely was from |newton Solney.I think we've been there already!!

and married Harriet 1882......their children appear to have been born at Repton.though do not appear in the Anglican Parish records........George 1884....Daisy 1885...Frank 1889.Wiliam t 1889.......the years are right according to BMd.s but not parish baptism back up......

The parents of Francis Atherley were Thomas and \Eliza of newton Solney.and \i believe JOSEPH ALLSOPP to have been born at Barton under \Needwood 1802.............not offered as fact......

I'm off now to win the lottery and do a magnificent first footing for my dear lady Grazyna......Happy New year ..xxxxxxxxx

Mark Report 15 Jan 2012 15:30

Hi Derek,
Just wondered if your records cover Tideswell and Youlgrave. The reason I ask is my 3x greatparents were a John Carson and a Grace Daffin. Most other trees with this couple don't have any birth date for Grace and place John E Carson as born, in Mansfield in 1768. I am not convinced by this and can see no supporting record. They, do have a wedding date of 4.8.1804 at Tideswell.
I found who I believe to be Grace Carson in Mansfield in 1841 and 1851 born bet. 1776 and 1781 in Youlgrave. I have also found a record of a John Carson born in 1785 in Tideswell. I wondered if you have any reords of Carsons and Daffin's in these locations?
Regards
Mark

Derek Report 15 Jan 2012 16:26

Hello Mark..yes, I have the appropriate Parish Records....I haven't yet checked out the origins of John Carson fully....but i can find no evidence that he was born in Mansfield..or a marriage that would put his parents in Notts.......

I do have the following information direct from parish records which I pass on to you as proven facts...but there is no cast iron assertion that these are you people:

GRACE DAFFIN baptised 2.06.1782 Youlgreave..one of EIGHT children of GEORGE DAFFIN and Hannah nee OLDFIELD.

Geroge Daffin was baptised Yougreave 11.06.1732 son of George and another Hannah..and his grandfather MAY have been another george baptised 26.06.1718 (on the basis that he could have been born well before 1718)

HANNAH OLDFIELD was baptised Youkgreave 08.04.1741 daughter of John and Mary nee Walwyn.

There are plenty of Carsons at Youlgreave but no appropriate John....and loads of Daffins..including the siblings of Grace Daffin..that you can have if you require them.

Now Then!!.......There is a baptism for JOHN CARSON at Tideswell 30.06.1785..son of William and Mary......
.......and there is a marriage at Tideswell for JOHN CARSON and GRACE DUFFIN 05.08.1805......John Carson of Youlgreave and Grace Carson of Tideswell.......which is a complete reverse of what we alreasdy know of their baptisms!!...........My own feeling, becasue the info so far is so good, that the places of origin have been erroneously transcribed...........probably due to a degree of illegibility

Hope this helps..

Derek.

Hell again Mark..i noticed my typo in my first answer to you..the marriage of John Carson to Grace Daffin was of course 1804 not 1805.

There is one tree on Ancestry that seems accurate..and i have deliberately checked it out with some of my Notts records.......If you are adding all this to your tree..you might be interested to have the siblings of HANNAH OLDFIELD who married GEORGE DAFFIN 25.05.176

Hannah was baptised at Youlgreave 04.04.1741 to JOHN OLDFIELD and MARY WALWIN (By the by the Walwins also married into the Carsons at some stage.)..
Siblings of Hannah Oldfield.

Jonathan 22.11.1724
John 07.09.1727
William 0.11.1731
Francis Windsor 18.10.174
Frances 05.02.1738
Windsor 02.02.1748..married Jane Sharlock 04.11.1778

Siblings of GRACE DAFFIN (she was the youngest)..

Ann 22.06.1764...married James Pedley 10.12.1787
Thomas 04.04.1766
Windsor 28.03.1769
Hannah 19.02.1771
Sarah 30.05.1773
Jane 16.07.1775
Mary 08.11.1778 married William Mather 31.01.1809

Children of JOHN CARSON and grace nee Daffin:-

Harriet 02.06.1805..Youlgreave
Ann 28.08.1808 Youlgreave
Grace 16.02.1812 Sutton in Ashfield Notts
John Franklin 15.02.1815 Mansfield
Alfred 25.03.1821 Mansfield
Abigail 28.03.1824 Mansfield
Mary Anne 02.09.1825 Mansfield.

From here on they all appear on success Censuse and are east enough t follow up to 1911.....

PS..please delete three of your last four messages to me!! delirium tremens?? lol

Hi Derek,

Gins put me onto you as i have a Derbyshire workhouse dilemma, have posted here about it so i'll leave you the link to read up rather than repeating it all, if you can help with any sort of info on the workhouse admissions, births, deaths ect for Chesterfield i would be really grateful as it's looking that's where this branch of my family were but with out workhouse records i can not clarify...the name to look for is HOLFORD/HALFORD/HULFORD, my g/g-grandmother was Annie Holford b:abt 1859, Chesterfield, Debyshire, i am trying to trace her and her family prior to her marriage to Joseph Heath (my g/g-grandfather) in 1879 Rotherham, she has a brother Henry Holford b:abt 1873, Chesterfield, Derbyshire but this is all i know...it's all in the post below but if ya need anything clarifying just give me a shout.
