Hi Derek
Thanks for the prompt response.
John Dunn married Mary Dennis, but, unfortunately, that was in Lincolnshire.
The 1851 census has his birthplace as Derby, Derbyshire, which is the only info I have on him, I'm afraid.
There is also one on 1851 who was born in Darley, so that's probably the one you're looking at
Please don't go to too much trouble.........it was a bit of a punt, really, with such a commonplace name.
Best wishes for Christmas.......

Hi Carol..have found you some Froggatt's at Duckmanton
GEORGE and MARY FROGGATT had the following children at Duckmanton ( George was a Gardener and mary a Stay Maker)
REBECCA 06.04.1845 THOMAS 30.05.1846 CHARLOTTE 02.09.1849 GEORGE 12.09.1852 MATTHIAS 01.04.1845
Interestingly they then moved to North Wingfield wher another child JANE was born in1859...( I do have the N.Wingfield registers and will check her BOB if you want it)
North Wingfield is the same general (Chesterfield)area as Duckmanton..and I noticed Cantrill's there as well.
MARY FROGGATT came from Elmton closee to the Derby/Notts border.but i have not yet found her marriage to George Froggatt.
more as i find it.
EDIT there are three earlier children on the 1851 Census EMMA 1840 SARAH 1841 and MARY 1843...at least two of which were born at Chaddesden Derbys...............by 1871 George and Mary have moved from Chaddesden..through Duckmanton to North Wingfield and lastly into Nottinghamshire

Hi Derek
Thanks very much for info. I do have the Nth Wingfield CD. I have managed to trace Mary's line at Elmton back to around 1720, but it is George that is causing a headache. His father was William, but can't find a baptism anywhere. I was hoping there may be more Froggatt's at Duckmanton that may give new leads. Never mind - back to the drawing board. Thanks for all your help & merry Christmas

Hi Derek and Happy Christmas to you. I am helping someone do their tree and we have come to Jonathan Machant/Machon (spelled various ways-I have all the census returns from 1841 to 1881 and it is spelled many different ways)
Jonathan was born 1810 Bolsover but lived most of his life in Eckington. His wife was Elizabeth born 1816 Staveley Woodthorp, Derbyshire, first child born 1839 in Eckington.
I am looking for a marriage of Jonathan Machant and Elizabeth.
Thanks in advance Jennifer

Carol..the only other Froggatts at Duckmanton are as follows:
Only one baptism..that of Hannah illegitimate daughter of HANNAH 12.08.1764......one of them..o idea which, was buried 13.06.1773
Three marriages only JOHN FROGGATT married PRISCILLA BEATMORE 01.07.1766: MARY FROGGATT married JOHN WOOD 22.09.1766..and ELIZABETH FROGGATT married JAMES SWALLOW 04.01.1770
Hannah is the only Froggatt burial
But it seems clear to me that you are looking in the wrong place. George was obviously passing through, probably in the course of finding work. He came from Spinkhill..which is very near to Sheffield, and close enough to Elmton to meet and marry Mary..but by 1841 he was at Chaddesden in Derby. I'll have a look for him in Yorkshire, because the boundaries changed so much in those days. EDIT..actually Spinkhill is ECKINGTON.have found the baptism of Emma there.26.05.1839..and Mary (with twin Joseph) 12.03.1843

HI Derek, some work for you. Mary Ann Parker who married Gilbert Measham had a son called Abraham Parker born 1831,Repton.
1. He married Ann born 1831 Newton Solney. Question Ann's Maiden name was ? and when was the Marriage.
2. Ann had died by the 1871 census and Abraham is listed as Widowed. Question Ann's death date ?
3. He then married Mary born 1847, Burton on Trent? who was on 1881 census with him Question Mary's maiden name, marriage date.
Hope these questions make sense. Thanks
ps. Happy New Year to you

Hi Gooner..and a happy New year to you too....
can't as yet answer your specific questions....probably need the Newton Solney PR's to do so..but I'll keep on it...........
Interestingly Mary Ann Parker married Gilbert Measham 13.09.1831..both widowed..as you already know.......but curiously Abraham Measham Parker was baptised on the same day..........yet he kept the Parker name and not the Measham name..why??? was he Gilbert's son??? or the son of some nameless lover of Mary Ann's??? would be interesting to know how old he was when he was baptised. If he was an infant, then he was presumably Gilbert's son. Never boring your lot!!!
Derek.

Hello again Derek,
I have traced my Fathers side of the family back to the Plague in 1666. I am trying to find the name of the Morton that lived on Shepherds Flat Farm in Eyam. I have: Matthew b. 1639 d.1718 Sarah Furness-Hawksworth b.1646 They married in 1667 after they both lost their families to the plague. I know that Matthew's Father is Thomas Morton b. abt 1608 who had a brother named John...............I just cant seem to find 'Shepherd Flat' Morton anywhere.
Is there any information you have of this time? or do you know where i could get more information? Thanks Rose

Hello Rose..Happy New Year.........just a` brief introduction....Matthew was living with his pregnant wife and two other children at the outbreak of the Eyam Plague..and a friend othe family lived just down the road..another pregnant woman who had lost her husband to the Plague...MATTHEW MOrton/Mortin..lost his two children.and his wife and the new born son shortly after........he was the owner of Shepherds Flatt Farm.. sometime later his greyhound dog suddenly upped and left his master to greet the figure of a woman..who he rcognised as the pregnant widow..she turned out to be Sarah Hawksorth nee Furness wife of Peter ..whi died in the Plague..they later married.........
will support this later this evening with Parish Record factual evidence..you've come to the right place!! EDIT......the very last victim of the plague at Eyam number 260..buried 01.11.1666 was "Abraham..ye son of John Morton defunct"

Hi Derek, and a happy new year to you too. I`ve almost finished our family tree as far back as I can get.. What I find strange is all my ancestors have all come from the same area ,Derbyshire,Sheffield,Yorkshire and cheshire, apart from my gran, who came from Wexford, Ireland and it`s one of the counties that hasn`t finished updating yet, so I`m stuck for now. I would really like to know who the unknown Shepherd flatt Morton was, It`s a real mystery, would there have been any sort of property deeds or taxes that would give us a clue? Get your teeth into that one Derek Ha!. Thanks for all your help. Rose

Hey Rose..........I don't think you're reading what I'm writing here......MATTHEW MORTON son of THOMAS MORTON was the FARMER of Shepherd Flatt Farm..as recorded on his marriage entry in Parish Records........the Morten/Morton family stilled owned the farm in at least 1803..and probably later..it still exists and houses the famous EYAM HERD... Parish Records show that Matthew Morton (of Shepherds Flatt!) married MARGARET BAGSHAW 12.08.1662 and had three children, all of whom perished, along with margaret in the Plague..they were Robert 07.02.1664..Sarah 1665 and in infant born 1666
There is no sign of any pedigree for Thomas Morton..but there are no Birth records for Eyam before 1630........He died 22.04.1655 at Eyam..and oddly there is a burial entry for "old widow Morten" for 06.08.1642.....
Matthew Miorten married Sarah Hawksworth (widow) 10.10.1667..and i have found one child for them: THOMAS 05.06.1669.......Sarah died 03.02.1680 and Matthew in 1681.......
A Local History has a slightly different story of matthew's second marriage to Alice the widow of Peter hawksworth, but is not supported, and is in fact refuted, by the parish records......There is some evidence to suggest that Thomas morton had three brothers, and that Matthew his son had five siblings......
That's about as far as i can go..although there is a pretty complete record of the Hawksworths........and i could probably trace Robert Morton 1664 through later years.
One interesting point that the Hearth Tax returns for 1671 show Matthew and Sarah and robert at Shepherd Flatt Farm........where's the problem lol!!

Hi Derek I do understand you....sorry lol we have found another tree on Ancestry called the Mortons of Eyam.... we have found everyone up to Matthew and Sarah......but the tree goes back through Thomas b. 1608 and his father is down as 'Shepherd Flatte' Morton who we was trying to find......but if Thomas came from Derby then this is wrong. I have Matthew and Margaret's children down as Robert b.1663, Sarah b. 1664 and an infant who all died........then Matthew and Sarah's children down as: Sarah d.1680 Thomas b.1669 b.1712 Mathei b.1671 d.1712 Rebeccah b.1680 Grace b.1683 Dinah b.1687 d.1687 John b.1689
Then we have Thomas Morton b.1608 married ALICE b.1612 and their children: Luke b.1632 d. 1635 Abraham b.1634 d.1635 Thomas b.1634 d.1634 William b.1634 Debora b.1635 John b.1635 d.1635 Elizabeth b.1637 Grace b.1639 d.1639 Matthew b.1639 d. 1718 Nicholas b.1640 d.1640 Dinah b.1642 d,1666
Although we still have to verify these as Alice either had twins and triplets or she was very clever lol I am going to stop at Thomas if we cannot get any further back i think 400 years back is doing very well. I just want to verify some things in the tree then print it off for my father. Thank You for all your help Rose

Hello Rose........I was suggesting that Thomas might have come from Derby.....but have since found that he and maybe three brother were from Eyam..........I am on Ancestry myself and mistrust a lot of the trees..particularly those from say America, who often just guess in order to claim English pedigrees............
If Thomas' father was indeed "Shepherd Flatte" Morton..it simply means nobody knows his name but could prove that the Mortons were at Shepherd's Flatt farm back into the 16th Century..which is highly likely...
I have seen the Micro-fiched originals of the Eyam Parish records at the matlock records office........they begin shortly before 1630....and although some do exist before that..they are completley unreadable.....
My advice to you would be to accept that there was a father of Thomas (obviously!! lol)..but there is no record of his name...just as i gave you the entry for "old Widow Morton"....who may well have been Thomas' mother..but I think that far back.."who may have been" is all you're going to get. Unlike some of these clowns on Ancestry who clutch at straws and then list them as facts so as to increase the number of people, erroneously, on their trees.......I deal in facts, and where there is doubt I say so..That's why this thread is so popular..people trust my findings.
According to Ancestry Trees..m GGG grandfather is buired in Ohio, and Kentucky and Kansas...........in FACT he is buried in the graveyard of Holy Trinity Church Ashford in the Water Derbyshire........... I'll verify the baptism dates for the two lists you have given me...later Great fun innit!!
Derek.
