Many thanks Derek.

The Alfreton burials can certainly go on hold, I do have another branch of my family tree originating from Pinxton but I can see your extremely busy so I'll hold back on them for now.

Again many thanks for your time, Maurice

Hi Dereck,

A good few so it's an as and when you get time.

I'm looking for the baptism of the following children thought to have been born in Pinxton to confirm that they were all the children of William and Charlotte Clay.

Henry abt 1871, A few Henry Clay's born in the district within a coupleof years of each other so I can't be certain of year of birth.

Elizabeth Hannah, born Dec Q of 1875.
Rebecca, born June Q of 1881
George, born Mar Q of 1883, in think.
Charlotte, born Mar Q 1886.

Possibly marraiges of Rebecca Clay in Sep Q of 1900 and sister Charlotte in Dec Q of 1904.

I'd also be interested in the burial of the mother of the above children, Charlotte Clay who is thought to have died in Pinxton in 1889, She is thought to have married William Clay in 1870 but in the Belper Dist and was Charlotte Cross born May 1854 in Pinxton.

Many thanks, Maurice

Hi LA..I'm collating the Poxons......0-3.......mmm you must be pleased!!!

Derek

Derek Report 24 Oct 2010 23:41

Hello Maurice..............none of the children were baptised at Pinxton.....

Good news.......CHARLOTTE CROSS baptised Pinxton 20.05.1854 daughter of James and Rebecca.

CHARLOTTE CLAY died 14.07.1889 buried 27.07.1889 aged 35

GEORGE CLAY aged 22 married ADA MARIE THEAKSTONE 03.03.1906..father William Clay...Ada's father John Theakstone..both were miners.

HENRY CLAY of 258 Wharf Road Pinxton died 07.02.1959 buried 11.02.1959 aged 88..is obviously the Henry born 1971 son of William and charlotte Clay.

Rebecca Clay was not married at Pinxton.....

More as i foind it

Look forward to Poxon info

Derek Report 25 Oct 2010 00:03

Maurice.we have a problem.because all the Census Returns show the children of William and Charlotte to have been born in Pinxton..NOT confirmed by my copy of the Pinxton Parish Records........so I'll have to check the originals at Matlock.

Apparently WILLIAM CLAY who married Rebecca Shooter was born Grantham lincs 1851..whereas the CROSS family came from Northants.

Bit of a mess at the mo..but if anyone can sort it..I can!!!

Derek.

Hi Derek,

How confusing, I found the father William Clay in the 1911 census but it's not a lot of help.

He is aged 59 and transcribed as being born in Altson, Lincs but that should read Allington, Lincs. Widowed he is living with Housekeeper Elizabeth Cross aged 51, his sister in law and a grand daughter Gladys, possibly "M" Clay born abt 1889 in Pinxton.

Address is recorded as being Office Rows, Pinxton, Nr Alfreton ?.

I did have a note on the possible marraige of George to Ada but unfortunately two George Clays had been born in the district within a year or so, A George and a George Edward Clay.

Apologies for getting you into this puzzle,
Maurice

Maurice Report 25 Oct 2010 15:32

Apologies Derek,

To rub salt in the wounds I appear to have missed some Clowne marraiges the first time around and wondered if any records shows on the following probably at St John the Baptist, Clowne.

Ada Ann Froggatt married Henry Milner in the Sep Q of 1899.
Ellen Elizabeth Froggatt married George Windle in Dec Q of 1903.
Lilian Froggatt married George Atkinson in Mar Q of 1907.
Alice Froggatt married Arthur Mason in Sep Q of 1922.
If your records stretch that far I'm also looking for the marriage of Sabina Froggatt in the June Q 1925 but that was in the district of Chesterfield.

All brides should be daughters of Henry George Froggatt.

As and when time permits, I appreciate how busy you are at the moment.

Regards, Maurice

Hello janet.....I'm afraid i can't either..and will need to go to matlock to look at the Walton on trent Records.......I have further doubts about the parentage i gave you because that family is from Stapenhill..in very much the same area..and i do have those records..and all the children shown on the Census appear on those records....all except Ellen C.

I have a lot stored up to do at matlock and will try to make it soon.

Derek Report 26 Oct 2010 22:10

ok LA..here are your POXON's..some of them at least.

FRANCIS POXON was born at Packington Ashby Leics..31.05.1846..son of Francis Poxon of Auborn Lincs b 1805.and Elizabeth Pickering of packington born 1806..they were married 20.07.1823.

They had at least TEN children of which FRANCIS POXON was the eighth...there is a 10 year gap between the first and third children on the 1851 Census..so there may be at least one other child who by 1851 has gone of to get married.....

FRANCIS married LOUISA MEASHAM 21.09.1867 at Repton.and there is a complete record of their children up to 1901..except for 1861...,I know that louisa was working as a srvant in 1861..but don't know where Francis was.

Louisa measham is of course the daughter of William Measham and the grand daughter of the dreaded Gilbert 1776 and mary Meakin!!!!!!!

In 1901 Francis and louisa are living with the last two of their EIght chhildren..but also with GEORGE an earlier son (1878) and his wife Edith (a Devonshire lass..and their two small children........

Let me know if there is any filling in you need..and meanwhile I'll have a quick look at the 1911 census......

Derek.
