Hello Derek,

Thank you for your kind offer. I am hoping you can help me. My ggg grandfather John Walker was christened in All Saints, Derby in 1802 his parents were John and Anne. Could you please look for John Walker snr marriage to Anne?
I have not been able to find my ggg grandfather in the 1841 census nor after 1871. In the 1861 census he was a watchmaker employing 10 men living in Lambeth. In the 1871 census he was living in Sussex and occupation was gentleman.
Anything that you can find for me will be appreciated.

Liz

Derek
Do you have anything which relates to Rolleston Hall?
My Grandmother visited there in 1930 I believe to visit her brother Sidney Borrill and would love to be able to prove the connection. He mayhave been a gardener there, as he was a gardener when living at home with his parents.
Regards

Bruce

Hi Derek,

Did you have any success looking for the information I asked for William Wilkinson and Catherine Noton

Thanks Sandra

Derek

Derek Report 3 Jul 2010 08:24

Hello Sandra..the short answer is no..nothing at all..I think they might be from Notts not Derbys....and i don't have many Notts resources.

Sherbert Rose Report 3 Jul 2010 18:46

Hi Derek,

I don't think they were from Nottinghamshire. Catherine was baptised in Bakewell, and I have her family going back a few generations. Also, there is an extracted record on the www.familySearch.org website giving the date of marriage as 14 Oct 1790 Bakewell. I know this website is not totally reliable but I would have expected some reference as it is an extracted record.

Sandra........my apologies.....misread your message..was looking for Catherine Norton................

In fact the Bakewell PRS give the marriage of Catherine NORTON to William Wilkinson 14.10.1790..........

There is a baptism of CATHERINE NOTON daughter of Richard and Mary baptised 05.06.1768..............but although William Wilkinson is described as Of Bakewell..he was not born or baptised there.......

My own family has come to a complete stop for exactly the same reason.both 3x great grandparents where married in Ashford in the Water near bakewell.both described as "of this parish"..but neither was born there.

Derek.

Hi Derek,

Thank you for your reply. Were there any witnesses that might throw light on where William came from? The baptism which you found is my Catherine and as I stated I can take that line back a few generations. Unfortunately, with Wilkinson being quite a common name William is not so easy to find!!

Hi Derek

I found this record on Family Search for Barnett Evans marriage to Martha Needham 3 April 1831, in Duffield, Derby.
I wondered if it was possible to locate it and find some info on parents of the couple and maybe Marthas birth.(Barnett was born in Kent)

Hope you can help

Hello Maggie.........this is a maze!!..You may or may not know that the parish of Duffield includes a whole host of hamlets ,villages and chapelries.........like for instance Belper Heage Milford etc etc.....
I do have Records of most of these places as well as indexes.....and the only MARTHA NEEDHAM that fits all the criteria was in fact born in Belper..in the Parish of Duffield 10.04.1811..and baptised 02.05.1811..she married BARNETT EVANS at Duffield 03.04.1831

Martha was one of several children born to WILLIAM NEEDHAM (b.Duffield 14.03 1763) and REBECCA (nee Statham) who were married at Duffield 10.01.1791.

Their children..all baptised at the Independent Church of belper and heage (in the Parish of Belper) were.

William 19.04.1796..bapt. 02.05.1796
Elizabeth 08.03.1798 bapt 28.03.1798
Francis 15.12.1799 bapt. 31.12.1799
Mary 14.07.1801 bapt.04.08.1801
Rhoda 16.04.1803 bapt. 20.04.1803
George 15.03.1805 bapt.04.04.1805
Hannah 06.02.1807. bapt. 13.02.1807
Joseph 30.10.1809. bapt. 22.11.1809

and MARTHA 10.04.1811 bapt. 02.05.1811

Barnett and Martha moved around a lot..both eventually dying in Bethnal green london..if you don't have their history on the Censusues..let me know

all the` best.

Derek

Derek Report 9 Jul 2010 15:49

Hi Gooner..........Hooray!! not the dreaded Meashams!!...and double hooray cos i have the Spondon information!!............

JOSEPH COPE married RACHEL JERRAM 27.08.1832 at Spondon....they were very prolific..having at least NINE children through to Walter in 1852..

one of these children was EDWARD COPE baptised 17.10.1841..who married RACHEL FAIRBAINES?FAIRBARNES...in Derby in 1863..not sure where,,but not at Spondon.......RACHEL was the dughter of Frederick and Ann..who agin had millions of sprogs.......

Edward and Rachel also enjoyed the days before telly......up to about 1880....

details of children on request..........much of this is also on the Census Records..so if you want addresses occupations or any marriages of said sprogs......dial 999!!! lol
