Find Ancestors

After a very good day for football, I am a Manchester City supporter, I now have the mystery of Hannah Oliver solved.

I have now her father was Abel and her mother Sarah Heginbottom.

I have a number of dead ends with Derbyshire Ancestry.

If you are willing I will be asking for more help.

Joseph Pearson born about 1826 in New Mills Derbyshire

Who were his parents?

I have him married to Anne Kirk.


Also Jane Oliver born about 1785 her husband Henry Kirk was born in Chapel on Le Frith but I do not know where Jane was born other than in Derbyshire.

I have loads of loose ends on my fathers mothers side of the tree. All Derbyshire.

Simon.....trouble is there are quite a few Joseph pearsons..I have plenty of stuff for Pearsons/Kirks.and olivers..its a question of working out links..so the more you can give me the better....

JANE OLIVER was born 02.10.1785 and baptised 11.11.1785 at Chapel en le Frith..daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth.......she married Henry KIRK 02.12.1804

The most likely JOSEPH PEARSON was born New Mills Wesleyan 02.04.1824 and baptised 30.05.1825..son of William and Ruth.

As I suggested..they were clearly Non conformists.and are always harder to find...

I have another Kirk, Thomas born in 1681 in Townend, Chapel en le Frith, Derbyshire, England.

I believe he married Hester but what was her maiden name and when was she born.

Who were Thomas's parents.

I struggle to find any of this on IGI.

have you any details on the marriage of Mary Ann Gould born c 1848, her parents were John Gould c 1820 and Mary Tomlinson . She married Joseph Watts Sylvester c1870. They are all together on the 1871 Brassington Census but I don't seem to have a record of the marriage.

Hey It worked *SHOCK*

Although Mr John and family are driving me up the wall.
I found them in 1871 John Holliday & Elizabeth & William J.
Living at 74 Louis Street, Liverpool. Then in 1891 in Sands Road, Dewsbury, Yorkshire with his wife and children. So where is he and what happened to his children but what I would really like to know is when did he get married and where and to who(m)???

I know I haven't explained very well, so please yell at me if you would like.

Hello RMS.......this is difficult.........first thing..are you sure they actually moved to Yorkshire???
My first suggestion (note suggestion) is that JOHN HOLLIDAY was born Liverpool 1849.....son of JOSEPH AND MARGARET.with a sister ANN born 1850..........
Second possible is that he married ELIZABETH HATTON 1869 LIverpool...
...that's as far as i have got......but do not despair!!

Hello Molly..........I have everything except the marriage...can't find it anywhere!!...I have all the census returns up to and including 1901..with all the children..and even at one point they were living next door to her parents John and mary.and another where they are actually living with Mary Ann's parents....I have found somebody on Ancestry with a very extensive Family tree for John Watts Sylvester..from his birth in Loghborough leics..right through..unfortunately they are not making it public..so i have sent them a message......will see what happens..


As i said some time ago...with JOHN GOULD being a Methodist Minister they were probably married in an obscure chapel somewhere...

Hi Pauline..have had a good look round on this one...don't think i can do any better than you have.except with a little reminder that THANET is a district rather than a single place and includes Broadstairs Ramsgate and Margate.........so his death may not specify Thanet.....I'll keep looking..

Actually John was born in Coggs, Oxfordshire, son of James and Miraim Holliday. I'm not sure why I think this but I have down his middle name was Weller, which would make sense as that was his Mothers maiden name.
Yes, because in 1891 he was living there and he had 4 children

Thanks for replying to my Gould question, I do so hope there is a reply to your question on the Ancestry tree.
I noticed on the 1851 census that John and Mary Gould have a visitor called Benjamin Tomlinson and a lodger called Joseph Fearn. I wondered if they were related to John and Mary?
