I have had more than one cert have a different name to the census, they weren't too careful with their transcribing. Even my nan's sister plain old florence gets all sorts of variations on each census.

I guess what I'm trying to say is "don't try and create another mystery"!! It is the right family, just one wrong name, and that happens all the time, ask evie beavie!!

I have found the Isabels under Isabelle/isabella/isabel and isabell, but not under sarah before.
sadgroves I find under sadengren and all sorts, but she has always been some kind of isabel.

And her middle name wasn't Sarah -- this birthdate is a little off, but surely there weren't that many Isabel Sadgrove-s around. Marriage cert will give father's name?

ISABEL ELIZA SADGROVE
Birth: 11 MAR 1834
Christening: 01 JUN 1834 Stockwell New Chapel Independent, Lambeth, Surrey, England
Father: WM. HARRY SADGROVE
Mother: JULIA CROLE HAMMOND
Batch No.: C097911

No, it deffo says Sarah on image.
Harold died 1872.
I have the 1868 marriage cert too.
I am not disputing its the right family ,as I believe it is,and my they did naf move a lot.
Just the wifes name.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 7 Jun 2009 23:38

But no, the image very definitely and very clearly says Sarah for wife's name in 1871. Isabella the daughter underneath her is completely different.

It could have been misread from the household schedule, but that seems unlikely. Although the 1/2 is written differently from Harold's 1/2.

Oh, and Isabella's age is 1 1/2 clear as a bell and beyond question, too.

Huh.

Marriages Dec 1868
Pullen Thomas James Hackney 1b 639
Sadgrove Isabel Hackney 1b 639

Linda

Linda Report 7 Jun 2009 23:35

Probably just a transcribers error, the kids are all too old on ancestry and their transcribers can't read the surname ..killen/pullen. the writing is a bit fancy. Isabella's age could read 17 (1 1/2)!! ??? linda :)

You are wonderful arent you Janey, thank you.
never mind about the enter key,I will let you see that one at a later date.
And that comes under KB anyway

BUT WHERE IS HE WITH ??
wife isabel and child isabel born 1869 in 1871,you aint found that yet.

This lot sure liked calling themselves a gentleman, thats what isabel sadgrove/pullen has down for her fathers occ on MC to thomas james.
But none of the women seem to be listed as a gentlewoman!
