-- but that wouldn't make her a first cousin of Edward, it would make her a niece of Edward the Bishop.

She could have been the child of a male Philpot who married a female Heperden who was a sister of Edward's mother.

Or the child of a male Philpot who married a female King who was a sister of Edward's father.

The way I figure it. But maybe "first cousin" wasn't quite it?

Can you tell us who she married? It's sometimes easier to trace backwards through the censuses.

Do you have Agnes Philpot's parents' names?

If she was first cousin, then one of her parents was a sibling to one of Edward's parents.

The connection may not have been Philpot - or King. It could have been their mothers who were siblings.

Edward King was born 1829. Now, I'm no spring chicken, and the oldest gr-grparent I have was born in 1851 -- very close to 100 years before me.

But true, some of my mum's gr-grparents were born in the 1820s. So if you're somewhere between my mum and me, that makes sense.

There are only two Agnes Philpot marriages 1840-1870 -- one in South Molton in 1841 and one in Liverpool in 1865. Would she be the one in 1865?

The thing is, in order to try to help, we really do need the info you have and we don't.

The record in the IGI has Walker King of Stone, Kent, marrying Ann Heberden on 15 May 1823 in St James Westminster.

There is another female Heberden marriage in the same batch, M147516, to an Andrewes. No connection there. And no King-Philpot or Heberden-Philpot marriage in that batch.

But you must know at least Agnes's father's name, from her marriage certificate, and maybe her mother's name ...

In any event, if Agnes was first cousin to Edward King, it wouldn't have been because one of Edward's siblings married a Philpot!

Sorry I`ve only just got back. I am in the Uk so guess our time zones are out of sinq. My great grandmother Agnes Philpot was a first cousin to Edward King (who never married). I know this is a long shot but at present its all I have to go on. I am grateful for all your help.

I do note that Janey's first response on this thread was less than 10 minutes after it was posted

....... and that I then set the other two on the correct path less than an hour after it was posted.


I also note that there has been no response since the crack at us for levity at 22:18 on the 14th ........... even though a very germaine question was asked, and the other two attempted to help without receiving answers to the question.

As at the beginning of the thread, that germaine question was asked less than 10 minutes after Jean's posting.

Next time Jean, please try to stay around for 10 or 15 minutes and you might get even better help than you have received so far.

Yes, this would be because, now that I return to that tab and see what the result says, I searched for the marriage of King with given name Philpot. Must admit I was a tad surprised there were none.

Seems I'm doomed to make a fool of myself in this thread!

Jean, what info do you have that makes you believe a sibling of Edward married a Philpot? You must have something? Can you give us a family that we can follow back through the censuses?

Janey, my FreeBMD shows quite a few King/Philpot marriages but I can't see any that might be a sibling of Edward. (Note one T Philpot.)

The only King/Philpot marriage on BVRI was Edward King & Elizabeth Philpott, 1818, Flamstead, Hertfordshire. I don't think so!

By the way, Jean, if you read the posts carefully, you'll see that the three of us who were kibitzing in your absence are the exact same three who were seriously trying to help, the only three who have posted in this thread.

It's wise to stick around a bit after starting a thread, because questions like we had will usually be posted almost immediately.

FreeBMD doesn't show any King-Philpot marriages ever ...

Very many grateful thanks to all the people seriously trying to help. I now have many more dates and names to go on. I now need to know which sibling of Edward married into the Philpot family. Does anyone have any ideas on this one. Note this reply is just 22 hours after my enquiry so a big thankyou for all your prompt answers.
