The two messages were in my email box to say that she has contacted me through GENES Reunited, but when i i went into my "in box" on GR they were not showing up at all...........so i am wondering if this means she is blocked???

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 26 Feb 2009 13:59

And I've had no reply to email.

Mind you, they *shouldn't* tell us what action they're taking about someone else; that's personal info. But they should offer some assurances of, er, "appropriate action". And actually take some appropriate action.

Oops, shoulda checked.

Go here and click on her name.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1128665

Read where it says who you're sending the message to.

Hurray!

*** The problem has been solved. ***

I emailed GR to thank them for taking action, and at that exact same minute they were emailing me to assure me that they had taken appropriate action and apologize if the member has upset me in any way.

I imagine others who complained directly will be getting similar messages.

May as well use this thread for something now. ;)

Some of you are not Star Trek fans. So you're not familiar with the Pakleds.

They appeared in an episode of STNG called "Samaritan Snare" - about the possible pitfalls of being the boy scouts / girl guides of the universe.

They sail around space in a spaceship that they have no idea how to repair, depending on the kindness of strangers to fix their flat tires, or busted warp drives, you know. Actually, tricking strangers into helping them and then stealing what they want.

They manage this by saying things like

"We are not smart. You are strong. Help us."

Aaaahhh. Yes, my point, and I did have one. ;)

Here's a fun site about them.

http://www.eskimo.com/~bpentium/pakleds/

Some lines (I think there are audio clips, and there are pix):

"We are Far From Home"
"We look for Things, things we need"
"He is smart"
"It is broken, can you make it go?"
"You think we are not smart"
"We want to be nothing if not persistant"
"You ARE smart, make us strong"
"We are a force now, we will have respect"

So ....

Now you too can read these boards with visions of Pakleds dancing in your heads ...

We are not smart ... help us ...
and we will take what you have and run.

I'm not a Trekkie but personally I have been watching reruns of The Lone Ranger - now that is really class!!

What we do now now Kimo Sabi? Him plenty dead!!!!!

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 26 Feb 2009 17:12

Lone Ranger, seeing a crowd of armed First Nations warriors coming over the hill:

"What are we going to do now, Tonto???"

Tonto:

"Who 'we', white man?"

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 26 Feb 2009 17:13

What did Tarzan say when he saw the elephants coming over the hill?

Duh. "Here come the elephants over the hill."

What did Tarzan say when he saw the elephants come over the hill wearing sunglasses?

Dea

Dea Report 26 Feb 2009 17:15

Ann,

Interestingly, I do know about Kimo sabe and the 'lone Ranger'.

It was his 'little play on words' from the Spanish "Que no sabe" = "He who knows nothing" !!!!

His Indian friend 'Tonto' didn't come out of it too well either - It again comes from the Spanish for 'stupid' or 'fool' !!

"How did elephants get to wear sunglasses"?

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 26 Feb 2009 17:23

If I remember rightly Evie the Pakleds kidnap the person they feel can help them most.
Watchout.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 26 Feb 2009 17:26

Tsk.

Tarzan didn't say anything, because he didn't recognize them.

Dea: Quien no sabe, surely. ;)

At least Tonto didn't get named that inexplicably socially acceptable word starting with a "c" used in French and Spanish for "stupid". Women and our body parts, the perfect metaphors for stupidity ...

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 26 Feb 2009 17:32

Christine: I'd say I'll put my sunglasses on so they won't recognize me ... but that was Geordie's trademark ...!

Just funnin' y'understand. This spaceship needs its full crew complement to fly! Otherwise all anybody would ever get here would be crazy theories about unacknowledged royal births ... hey, somebody who shall now be nameless and I would have made a great team.

I got a PM a few weeks ago from somebody I'd offered a wild theory to many months ago. Guess what. It was the truth. Her elderly husband's father really *was* the scion of a titled Irish family, who had spend the 20s roaring around in a red roadster and dabbling at business, while seducing the factory girls. Or at least one of them. And the elderly husband has now met a whole welcoming family of people he'd never suspected existed.

Dang, I like this job. Now if only somebody would get to work and find *my* relations of nobility ...

Dea

Dea Report 26 Feb 2009 17:32

I 'stand corrected" Evie - It has been quite a while since I have had need to think in Spanish !!
Interesting though eh?

"crazy theories about unacknowledged births"
I think the captain had that problem once.
It 's funny you should mention that Evie.
When I was a small child my grandparents showed me a picture of my great grandfather and said he should have been the marquess of Bath but he was disinherited. It was that and a few other theories sparked my interest in family history. It was not until three years ago t joined this site and started too investigate it.
He was not the son of the Marquess of course although he was one of the few Thynnes not related. Shame. I always fancied a lion.

Heh, I'll have to check a Burke's and see whether my noble nob outranks yours. ;)

I haven't given up yet. His younger brother does fit exactly into the timeframe in question, and it was supposed to have been a younger brother of ...

Dea - I was just having to figure out a French expression today -- mine de rien, still haven't quite got a handle on it -- and one of the things google found me was somebody saying "mine de rien", it's exhausting having to think in English!

Dea

Dea Report 26 Feb 2009 20:49

Evie,

I think, in French - 'mine de rien' translates as something like 'though you wouldn't think so' ???

Does that make sense in your context??
