I want to know where the Chattaway / Firth report comes from!

Pending some confirmation of Florrie = Florence, I thought we'd test it by seeing whether Florrie Chattaway Firth might have remarried as a widow after July 1916.

Do you any idea of how many &^($@ Florrie Firths married, in Yorkshire, in the next 10 years??

Another Genes reunited member contacted me to say that Florence Amy Baker that married my Grandfather Mitchell was in fact Florrie Chattaway who married a Firth. This GR member was from the Chattaway line, and she said Florence's father was Arthur Chattaway, yet on the marriage certificate she gives Henry Baker as her father? That's why I can't trace back the Mitchell line.
Because I don't know who's who anymore!

Oh boy other peoples research, first rule, do your own, In that case I would discount Florrie for the moment, you may be up the wrong garden path !

I think we should stick to Sussex some how.

It all seems a bit fantastical -- but I'm not known for ruling out fantastical tales, fear not.

It's just that FChattaway was born in Yorkshire and married and (apparently) had a chld there, FABaker married in Sussex.
You were told of bigamy on FChattaway's part, when evidently it was widowhood.
That sort of thing.

The other GR member did specify the bigamy part?
Or is that something reported in your own family?
Or an assumption made by someone who didn't know about the WWI death?

What were the ages of Stephen Mitchell and Florence Amy Baker on the marriage certificate?

If you have time please can you copy all the info from her marriage cert, even witnesses, it might give some clues ?

when other GR member gave me the info I contacted a cousin and I was told that she was told by her mother that one of the mitchells thought he was a mitchell but only found out he was a firth after his mother died? this is why the firth story stacks up!
