the place of martha's birth in the one for 1881 fits - identified by lancs bmd as Heywood (spelling the same - Magee, but if she was illiterate she would not know if it was the right spelling)

Neil

Neil Report 21 Jan 2009 16:25

thats quite possible she was 41 as it was her second marrage but the spelling on my cert is mcghee suppose it could be wrong, i found these

Marriages April qtr 1902 Martha McGhee to Edmund Bennion
April qtr 1922 Martha Bennion to Albert Chatterley Ward

1901 census
6 Bowling green Heywood Edmund Bennion age 50 but he already has a wife.
9 Lever Street Heywood Albert C Ward age 2 Father Mark mother Ellen

thats the only albert chatterly i can find but i think that makes him half marthas age

?

There's this one but the spelling isn't the same and she would have been
41 when Sallie was born.

Just returned. Apparently uxor is latin for wife and filia is latin for daughter.
Unfortunately I don't have access to Ancestry apart from going to the library which is closed today.. I'm sure someone else with give their advice.

Have a look here, and keep checking back for updated transcriptions:

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl

There are currently 58 WHALLEY baptisms listed in Lancashire (try other spellings too). The format is a little simpler than the IGI (much will overlap), and the records may give more info - but keep in mind, mother's name is unlikely to be included in early parish baptism records.

There are those who have said I should be - a detective. It has also been whispered that I could make a career of blackmailing, with such an ability to ferret out facts ...

But that one was kinda obvious. ;)

Remember -- those are a lot of ifs! I'm quite fond of wild theories, but bare facts need some interconnecting in order to form a theory. ;)
