If you have the marriage cert-what was her father's name and occupation?

PatB243 Report 12 Nov 2008 14:41

Can anyone out there help me? I've just started looking for info on grandparents. Found quite a bit on grandfather JAMES DURKIN dob - 1888, Marriage to MARGARET MCGLENN in1911, His death 1957 and have copies of certificates.

Marriage certificate puts her at aged 23 in 1911 The marriage year ties in with info on all her births (including my Dad's).

But cannot find anything on my Grandmother's birth. other than her death in 1974 (have certificate). Now for the problem - the death certificate puts her dob as 25/12/1893 - making her 18 at marriage not 23. The death certificate also states her maiden name as GLEN not McGlenn as expected.

I have looked on BMD sites for 1887/88 and 1893 for her name but can't find anyone born in Bradford. Also have looked on the 1901 census and also can't find her.

I think she came from either Bradford or from somewhere in the North East. The family originally came from Ireland. Also have no idea if there were any siblings. There are no elderly relatives left.

A cousin of mine has informed me that he thought she was brought up in a convent - from what age I don't know, or if that is correct.

Is it possible to find out info from the 1901 census of who would be living in certain convents at that time? If so how do I go about it?

Any help would be great!
