Hi everyone,

Firstly thanks to PaulaW - Yes did have a look on the Nazareth site - not in great detail, but at least I know where to find the info. Many thanks again.

Dea/Richard,

My Oh My!! - You're both too good for me! and way ahead!

I've had to print out the info, and at first glance to me, it's reading that a John McGlen married an Annie Durkin in 1881 - Is that the JMc that is father to my grandmother Margaret Philomena? I'm getting a bit confused, as she also married a Durkin - my grandfather James. I'm sorry if I seem a bit blank about it all but
the fact that the Durkin name has come up within the McGlenn/n's
family is making my little pea brain work overtime.!!!

Although I said I have info on the DURKINS it is only about my grandparents' children, and the names of grandfather's parents, As yet I haven't gone any further with that as i thought I would first find out my grandmother's maiden name and family, because I thought her name would be easier to follow rather than the Durkins.

I hope what I've written makes sense to you.

Pat

Afternoon dea.
The plot thickens, Now that ancestry is back working again i have been able to veiw the images.
I see neither john,s were masons.

The only death i have found for a john prior to margarets marriage is of john in sunderland who died in 1906.

The fact that margaret was a worsted spinner in bradford is a plus point, but i suspect in that area at the time the cotton industry was a large employer.

The durkin link is a interesting one and we could do with pats opinion on that.

I will take one more look for any mistranscribed cencus,s.

I will also send pat another message to get her opinion on the possible durkin connection.

Had a look at the John in Bradford on 1901.

He was a Gereral Labourer born in Trimdon, Durham,
living at 45 Hannah Gate, Bradford.

Margaret was a worsted spinner.

Good morning Pat,

I have just opened your pm and was about to cut + paste the info onto here then saw that you had realised this and already added it.

I don't think either of these John's was ever a Mason but will have another search through when I have 'properly' woken up.

Artbeat Report 12 Nov 2008 22:59

Unfortunately pat at the moment i can not look at the images to look at the address and occupation of john in bradford in 1901.
If i remember correctly the john in 1891 living in sunderland was a labourer.

Hi

First thank you to everyone who has replied with info. I realise I should have replied via the community board not necessarily to you Dea direct - apologies. So here is the same info that I sent direct to Dea:-

Here goes with what i know at present - details on marriage certificate.

Date 25/10/1911

James Durkin 23 yrs batchelor, Wool Comber - 48 Sedgewick Street Bradford - His father also James (Deceased) was a Mason.

Margaret McGlenn 23 yrs spinster, Worsted Spinner - 147 Gracechurch Street, Bradford - Her father John (Deceased) he was also a Mason.

Married at St Patricks Church Westgate Bradford (Catholic)
Witnesses - A. Durkin & ?? Mullarkey (James's Mother's maiden name was Mullarkey) so obviously somone from the family.

Everything I know about my grandmother relates to Bradford. It was only the fact that a cousin thought they remembered the North East area mentioned and that she had been brought up in a convent (all new to me).

Her death certificate states Margaret Philomena (Philomena I'm sure was only a Confirmation Name). She was always called this within the family as a joke - good catholic name!! Her occupation was listed as Worsted Spinner (retired)and widow of James Durkin (all ties in with what I know) Her place of birth was stated as Yorkshire (no prob with that) but her year of birth was 1893 25th December. Can confirm that 25th December was the date expected and remembered by the family, but the year threw me as I had been looking for earlier yearsand also like others just came across the Sunderland McGlenns. As as child I do not remember hearing that she had a middle name, other than Philomena

Hope this is more helpful.

I wish Pat would come back and tell us what she knows!!

I believe the marriage took place in Bradford?

Hi I noticed above on the 1901 census someone has posted Nazareth House I have googled this and put a link for you this was a convent. When you get to the page you will need to scroll down and it will give you quite a bit of information about the history etc.

Noow - we have to be VERY careful here as we seem to have 2 Margaret Ann(e) McGlen(n)'s born around the same time, both with father John.

BUT one in Bradford and one in Sunderland.

You seemed to mention both regions in your first post, although presuming Bradford?

We need to have ALL the details from that marriage cert please - fathers, ages, occupations, addresses, witnesses etc - everything you know so we can see which one connects.
