Are you able to copy and past the 1891 and 1901 - I don't have ancestry

Sandra Louise

Sandra Louise Report 18 Sep 2008 20:29

I have been looking at the census's again and if the Ellen Younger in the 1891 census and the Ellen in the 1901 census are the same person, then the ages are out. In 1891 Ellen was 29, and ten years later she was 45. that is somewhat strange, a difference of six years. what do you think?

This is the information I have from the 1901 census.

Frederick Chapman (My Great Grandfather) Married, 42, mason's labourer, born London kentish town.

Ellen Chapman ( Great Grandmother) Wife, 45, born London, Peckham.

Henry Younger, stepson, 15, Vanguard railway worker, London, Peckham
Ellen Younger, stepdau, 11, London, Peckham

Elizabeth Chapman, dau, 9, London, Peckham
George Chapman, son, 5, London, Peckham
James Chapman, son, 4, London, peckham (my grandfather)
Dan Chapman, son 3, London, Peckham,
May, dau, 10 months, London, Peckham

61 Scylla Road, Camberwell, Peckham.

I realise earlier I said Ellen's children were 15 and 14. In fact they are 15, and 11.

I'm sorry

on the 1891 census it says, I think that Ellen was a wash woman. And on the 1901 census Ellen (ellen and Mr younger's daughter) had fits from birth

Can't even find a birth for Ellen! Wonder if she had a different first name, say Elizabeth Ellen and used her middle name.

This is the nearest I can find on the 1881. Peckham is now in the borough of Southwark (now London)

Ellen was listed as married in 1891.

There's a birth for an Eleanor Younger that could fit.

When was Fred born and where? same Question for Ellen?

Sandra Louise

Sandra Louise Report 18 Sep 2008 19:23

I haven't been able to find anything, and it has been driving me mad. If I didn't have the birth certificate of my grandfather in front of me, I would question the marriage at all. I have also had trouble finding Elizabeth his sister.

Yes, I think I have her in the 1891 census, she was a visitor at the house my great grandfather was lodging at 43 Brayards Road, camberwell, Peckham. She had no children with her at the time.

james Thomas Chapman born 30th November 1895 is the son of Frederick and Ellen. Although his date of birth, and age are slightly out on one of the census's. He was registered in Jan 1896.

Sandra Louise

Sandra Louise Report 18 Sep 2008 18:54

I have a bith certificate for my great grandad. It is stated she was Ellen Chapman, late younger, formerly Edmonds. they were living at 17 New James street at the time of his birth.

I hadn't considered them not being married.

Thank you for helping

Have you got birth certificates for their children? Do you have a death for Ellen?
