I have some new information on William Nielsen he was in the first world war at the battle of the somme he died in 1934 not 1932 as I previously thought my father has a funeral service card to confirm this from my late grandmothers possessions and his wife ellen died in 1926 aged 32 he was apparently a docker in plymouth and had a brother called George who ws a trade unionist at the docks in plymouth. My father also recalls my late great aunt mary always said the surname was nielsen and not neilson and always believed there were links to Denmark.

IF you get Williams birth cert i think it should have fathers occupation. I know the marriage cert should have so i would send for that before trying the navy

Rodney

Rodney Report 13 Sep 2008 21:47

might it be worth trying to contact the danish navy perhaps

Rodney

Rodney Report 13 Sep 2008 21:32

my father has often thought there might be naval connections

jansmith

jansmith Report 13 Sep 2008 21:31

Perhaps he was a sailor and not around in census years . Can anyone find any of the family posted in 1881 in 1891 or 1871? I have not been able to
