I thought the Saxilby name rang a bell. Slightly different spelling.

There's a marriage to of Sarah Ann Riley possibly to a William James Saxelby in 3rd Qtr 1884 in Sheffield.

What do you think?

That sounds promising Joy.

I just thought it seemed highly likely to be him because he was living in the same place as with his mother.

It may be worth getting that marriage cert also.

I've just been looking for marriages between Riley & Cunningham to see if we can rule the other one out. So far I've found three Mary Ann ( not spotted a M Jane yet)Rileys marrying Cunninghams.

Do you want me to keep going making notes so we can track them?

Now tracking Jane Saxilby back to 1891 finds her with her mother and a brother, Herbert J born 1888 Sheffield Yorkshire. Sarah lists herself as a widow in that one also.

I've had a look through 1881 Census and there is a Wm J Saxleby born c1855 in Sheffield.

A search of BMD records reveals this one died in Mar 1891.

What I'm thinking is Jane and Herbert are his children, George H and William (in the 1901 Census) aren't his, but are born illegitimately.

I've had a look at 1891 census for Sarah Saxilby.
It says she is a widow in that census also

This is Williams death record

And if you look at the 1881 Census for Wm J Saxleby born 1855 Sheffield, Yorkshire, you'll find him with his mother..........Jane!

I wonder who their father is Joy.

I'm almost sure this is your Sarah.

I'm still having no luck with Eliza as Riley or Hallam.

So are we both now happy that we have traced Frank & Sarah & William up to 1901?

chrisa

chrisa Report 27 Jun 2008 21:58

We also have John & Harriet up to 1901.

Me neither. They are proving rather fun to pin down though.

While searching, I did spot one record written as being born Brightside, Sheffield, Yorkshire.

I've Googled and Brightside was a Civil Parish of Sheffield, so I think we're on the right track with them being born Sheffield after 1881.

So now we still need to find something for
Eliza Hallam Riley after 1871 though I think she has died. (where is her death record?)

& I need to read back throuygh the thread to check but I think we last have Mary in 1881? is that right? We need to find her.

& Edith, I need check back the info you have on her. Did you need to trace her or do you have her?

& Joseph...I'm sure I found something in 1901 for him yesterday but for some reason I haven't posted anything..must find that.

Edith - I have married to Henry Blaber in 1888 Sheffield.

Eliza - Can't find diddly squat for her.

Harriet - I have married to George Ward 1893 Sheffield.

Joseph - I'm sure you did post on. I'll read through again and check.

Joy do you have edith after her marriage or do you need 1891 & 1901 for her. I've just found them.

I can't find any trace of Josephs daughters Claudia & Clarissa other than their births & the mistranscription in 1891. I was hoping they would enable us to track him down in 1901.

Joy *The Carlos Cutie of Ilson* Report 27 Jun 2008 22:32

Yes I have both Edith and Harriet after their marriage.

I've been thinking that maybe if Eliza did die it might be registered under a different spelling of the surnames. Perhaps Rielly or Hallem.

We already have 3 different spellings of the surname Saxilby.

You're welcome Joy.

I'm quite enjoying myself trying to find them.
Hopefully we'll get the loose ends tied up tomorrow.

I'm pleased it's not just my ancestors that liked to hide. ;-)

Makes me glad I'm descended from Hannah's brother, Richard, and not this lot. I think I would have given up by now. At least the puzzle with her younger sister, Mary Ann, was a lot simpler to solve.

Jeeze what a family!!!
