Crikey Mel,I havent bought baccy in the shops since I dont know when,I just visit our local "dealer"and its only £6 for a 2oz pack.
Which is just as well with 2 of us smoking ,,him started aged 9 when sent to boarding school and me aged 14 when family moved and I HATED my new secondary,in fact I left rather early at just 15 and didnt return to Wales until after my 16th.
But thats another story.....

roflol

............... after reading the postings after my last one

I had laser treatment to stop smoking ............. back in 1991.

Haven't had a cigarette since, but I did dream quite a lot for about the first 8 or 9 years about smoking, and even woke up with "that" taste in my mouth!

I get to go to the doc's office on Wednesday ........ but I always have a book with me. I ride the buses and like to read, and as I ride the buses I usually arrive early for appointments (I hate being late which I end up being if I try to arrive "on time") .................. hence the book.

AnnOGG ... sorry to hear that you've had the swine flu.

Like the UK, Canada is in the throes of the 2nd go-round with it. My daughter has decided NOT to get the vaccine ........ even though she is in her 2nd trimester, and they are really pushing over here that pregnant women are one of the most susceptible groups. She's read about it, listened to "experts", gone to meetings ...... and has decided that the side effects might be worse that keeping good care of herself, good hygiene etc.

I'm in the group that they say are not really in danger ...... over 65 with no underlying chronic health issues, so we get to have the regular flu vaccine first, and then H1N1 vaccine "later".

Janey I don't like ready mades and they don't satify me anyway. I roll my own and a 50g pack of baccy lasts me a week or more sometimes. That costs me £11. 97p. I too have blood pressure and my dad died of a heart attack at the age of 57 and he did'nt smoke or drink. I think when your time is up you go.........

JaneyCanuck Report 26 Oct 2009 18:03

We're going on the practicalities. (Also, I have high BP and a huge family history of coronary artery disease, and No.1 has Type I diabetes, so we can't quite just flip off the risks.)

A pack of 25 here is about $8. ... Oh, hey, the loonie is stronger than I'd imagined at the moment. $8.00 Cdn is about £4.60. You get two people smoking two packs a day ... and you could fly to Australia in no time. Howzat compare?

Oh you girls do make me laugh..........................................

A couple of years ago my OH and I went on the patches. Great except I had awful nightmares. OH seemed to enjoy his!!!!!!

Back on the baccy now and happy again. Both of us. I did try going on half a patch for a while and that worked ofr me but still had horrid dreams.

Give me a good old ciggy any day and I shall be happy. My mum is 85 and a half and has smoked all her life. Well since about 14...............................

I got to spend a half hour reading the notices on the walls this morning, in English, French, Chinese and Vietnamese, and two others I don't remember. Mind you, I was 20 minutes early (because I was supposed to be for filling out forms for switching clinics, but I already had when I started as a walk-in).

Why? Because all the reading matter (and toys) had been removed from the waiting room. Flu fear. I had to sit with the blood pressure machine for 10 minutes staring into space, not a page to read. Just thinking about not thinking about a cigarette ...

And speaking of inane drivel - does this Mills & Boon rival Harlequin Romances themselves?? They're Canuckistanian, you know. ;)

YES..

I have seen a couple of those Harlequin books in our local quacks,well we normally wait an hour or 2 to be seen,but even then I would rather read the notices,in english and welsh ,on the walls.

~~~~~~to Ann OGG ,,nice to see you to see you nice.
You probably do get the big US network shows after us. We're a month or so into Medium, House, etc., at this point. We get 'em simultaneously with the US broadcast.
Does anybody know whether Law&Order UK is coming back? I don't even know what year the season we had this summer was made. It was summer fill here, and there were only 6 or 8 of them. Much as I like seeing Danny Balwin again, it was disappointing that the plots were carbon copies of the US show. Like when a US version of Cracker was made, and I thought Oh goody, only to discover the scripts were the same as the UK ones I'd seen twice.
If you happen to get the US shows Trauma and Mercy (supposedly the ER replacement), stay away. Night-time soap of the most drivelly sort.
And speaking of inane drivel - does this Mills & Boon rival Harlequin Romances themselves?? They're Canuckistanian, you know. ;)
Oops, ~~~ to Ann o' GG, to whom I did send best wishes by PM!
TUT TUT Ginny,,fancy knowing about those little things that give you hallucinations!!
Def sticking with the ciggies me,I have enough vivid deams anyway,the ones I dislike the most are when I dream I have woken up from a dream and then realise I was only dreaming that I had woken from a dream,prob something to do with that misspent youth of mine.
Strawberry fields forever,,,,,one of my favourite songs!
Mills and boon,
Barbara Cartland made them famous I think,step granny of princess Di,
romantic novels of the most inane and look for the sick bucket kind to read.
One of my aunts is a great fan,but Ive always thought she was quite a daft old bat anyway.
I love Medium,and Pshycic detective ,but they are all re-runs here at the moment,but I dont think I have seen that kidnapping one on Medium,maybe we get them after you?.
And here's me, never having heard of this Mills & Boon.
Ha, you all think you've seen ... you ain't seen nuthin yet.
This is my 6th day on the patch, and the first day of attempting complete abstinence. Yes, I aim to be a born-again non-smoker.
So far I've had every possible side effect. Blisters from the patch itself. And the most realistic and distressing nightmares - three biggies in one night - ever.
One of the nightmares was that the double-barrelled-surnamed daughter of Ms. Snot who was sending me uninvited snooty PMs that day had become a squatter in the apartment I use for my office. I'd had an odd thing happen the week before, when the magazine I was sure was open in my bathroom suddenly had another magazine and an Ikea catalogue on top of it. I didn't remember putting them there. I started to wonder whether someone was getting in at night and sleeping on the spare bed here. It made me antsy. So in my dream, I decided there was one way to find out -- at 7 a.m., I unlocked the front door and shouted "fire! you have to get out!" and sure enough, there she was in a panic at the top of the stairs, Ms. Snot from GR's daughter -- realizing she'd just outed herself for breaking into my office.
The next one involved being at an amusement park waiting to go on the Ferris wheel - with No.2, who was of course the person I went on a Ferris wheel with a year ago. But this one had a baby falling out of it, and nobody helping it, so I ran and snatched it out of harm's way ... only to discover it was really a mechanical doll and now I had stolen it. Anybody see Medium last week? The crying baby, and Alison kidnapping it? I did, right before I fell asleep ...
Anyhow, if ya want some exciting dreams, get yrself the patch. Just be careful what you do before you go to bed!
An o' GG, I think, has been *in* cavorting. I shall make discreet enquiries.
I am with Ginny on Mills and Boon.....total and utter garbage.
But of course they were first introduced for the bored housewives many moons ago I believe,so no doubt some of the "older"ladies on here enjoy them still to relive their youth and romance>>;)
I now run to take cover with Ginny...
Mel, let's hope JC comes back on here - she may be able to help out and she's like a dog with the proverbial bone when she gets going on a search.
AOGG was offline a few days ago because she had been 'cut off' and had only just got back online but, since then, she's disappeared again. I wonder if she is out gallivanting a bit!!
I'm now glad I posted that reply from Gwladys because it has encouraged so many helpers on here.
