Ah, okay then, no emigration getting in the way. ;)

I imagine Hiram is weirdly mistranscribed in the 1911, and the way it stands now I can't do fuzzy searches.

You can take a shot at that census:

I have a copy of a birth certificate for an Annie Bennett, 11th Feb 1866. Born to George Bennett adnd Mary Ann Bennett, formerly Tonge. I an mot sure if this is the right Ann Bennett. I ordered it a) because dates tallied, b) home address listed as 8 Marshall Terrace Salford. It was the nearest match I could find. Not sure how to verify it though.

More locations needed.

The household you are looking at, I can't find in 1871 (Charles Ross c1864 with parents William and Alice).

Here's an interesting one, though.

Name: Charles Ross
Age: 6
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1865
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Hiram
Mother's Name: Mary
Where born: Broughton, Lancashire, England

Civil Parish: Broughton
County/Island: Lancashire
Registration district: Salford

Hiram Ross 39
Mary Ross 36
William A Ross 10
Fanny Ross 8
Charles Ross 6
John R Ross 3
Margaret Ross 1

I mean -- names like Hiram, people didn't usually pull out of a hat in 1907!

Hiram lived his entire life in England. My father emigrated to NZ in the 50's. Hiram married Mary Casey on Dec 26th, 1931. I have a copy of the marriage certificate.

Hello EvieBeavie,
oh my god, an actual reply! Thankyou. Yes I do have Hiram's birth certificate. Mother listed as Ann Henrietta Ross, formerly Bennett. I always asumed Bennett was a maiden name, didn't think about it being a previous married name. I did think Charles and Ann had children quite late. Now I am doubly stumped.

There's no Hiram Ross in the parts of the 1911 so far transcribed (which include Lancashire).

Do you have any idea when they left England?

So, we need a location for starters!

Problem now is there doesn't seem to be a Ross-Bennett marriage. No birth for an Ann Henrietta Bennett 1850-1890.

Do you have Hiram's birth certificate? No indication that Ann had been previously married?

Hello, I am trying to piece together my fathers family. I have my grandfather, Hiram Ross (b.04/10/1907) to Charles Ross & Ann Henrietta Bennett. There was an older brother Charles (b.1901 I think). I am having trouble linking Charles Ross (snr) to his family. I have a thread to a Ross family. Parents William Ross (b.1833c) and Alice Crossley (b.1836c). They had four sons, James, c.1862, Charles, c1864, Joseph, c.1866, Walter c.1873.
I am hoping this Charles is my great grandfather.

Can anyone help me to verify that I have the right link to the right family. I have not had any luck in tracing information on either Charles Ross and Ann Bennett.
Sadly my father doesn't have any information at all on his ancestors.

As I live in NZ, I am quite likely not at my computer at the same time as many of you. I will check back on my request, I thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
My thanks to Eleanor for the help thus far,

Susan
